7-30-10 - "The Show About Food and Music"

In case you missed...

FRESH BREASTS & BALLS, SHAVING, RECEIPTS ARE DEADLY AND MOMS THAT KILL
Bobby sang the Rosie Radio theme song and did a fantastic job but messed up some of the words.  He said "you'll laugh you'll die you'll wet your pants" instead of "you'll laugh you'll cry you'll wet your pants"  Bobby said that's because he would die if he wet his pants!  Rosie asked Pete how his fresh balls are?  Apparently she's not worried about a sexual harassment lawsuit!  lol  Pete said his fresh balls are very fresh.  The Fresh Balls and Fresh Breasts Sirius radio sponsor sent Rosie Radio some freebies in the mail and Pete's been trying them out!    Rosie thinks it's a needed product!  Deirdre has tried both products and thinks the Fresh Balls product smells better.  Janette put on the Fresh Breasts and finds that while she smells fresh, she's just as sweaty.  Pete loves his fresh balls overall.  Bobby thought of a better name for the product- freshticles.  Pete feels reassured now that the next time he goes to the doctor he will be nice and fresh.  He said he's a "sweaty beast and has a lot of hair."  Janette recommended he clipper his hair.  Pete can't shave or use clippers on his body because it makes him itch "something fierce."  Janette and Deirdre admitted to shaving the "peach fuzz" off their faces.  Janette read that the theory that if you shave, your hair will grow in darker and thicker is not true so she tried it and it has been true for her.  And she also read that shaving is one of the reasons why men look younger because they're constantly exfoliating the dead skin cells off their face.  Pete likes Dr. Bronner's peppermint cream instead of shaving cream and offered to bring it in for Janette and Deirdre to try.

They briefly discussed an article that reported that receipts contain the toxic chemical BPA.  This chemical has been linked to obesity, cancer, diabetes and reproductive issues and can be absorbed trough your skin.  They also discussed an article about radio frequency ID tags in clothing and the privacy issues that they present.   Privacy groups are concerned these tags bring us one step closer to a world where big brother watches our every move and if Walmart, the industry standard, is doing it then everyone will.

They discussed the story of a 14 year old boy who slit his parents throat and then killed his siblings and then himself.  The authorities had originally thought it was the boy who did the killings and now they've discovered it was the mother.  They discussed the story of the female Texas Mayor who shot her 19 year old daughter in the head and then committed suicide.  Pete said that after the murder/suicide they discovered the mayor's home was going into foreclosure and she was having financial problems.  She had also told her daughter that she was going to college in the fall but no college had any record of her application or of her high school transcripts.  They discussed the statistics of parents killing children and Pete said that 50% of parents that killed their children are men and 50% are women.  Meanwhile 70% of the men go to jail while only 20% of women go to jail for their crime.

BROOKE ELLIOTT FROM DROP DEAD DIVA
Rosie then introduced Brooke Elliott from Drop Dead Diva!!  Brooke was at a family reunion and was supposed to call in earlier this week but had a little confusion because of the time change. :) But she was grateful to finally make contact with Rosie and be on her show!

Brooke said the cast of "Drop Dead Diva" is still waiting to hear if they get picked up for another season and Rosie asked Brooke to call her as soon as they find out!  Brooke is not filming for the show right now and said she'd planning on going somewhere tropical like Hawaii!

Rosie and Brooke talked about the crazy amount of time it takes to film a drama series like Drop Dead Diva.  They talked a little about the times Rosie has been on the program and Brooke commented how grateful she is that Rosie has agreed to be on.  Brooke said that Rosie helps her so much when she's there.  Rosie has a great time doing the show and her favorite part of doing any series is the hair and makeup trailer.  They joked about the fact that the show is filmed near an airport and how they have to pause their scenes for planes taking off!

Brooke is battling allergies right now and Rosie talked with her a bit about that.  And they talked about performing on Broadway and how much fun it is to do a Broadway show.  Brooke said she loves doing Drop Dead Diva but she misses Broadway too.  She said she misses the family atmosphere that is created when you're in a Broadway show.  Brooke said there's something special that is created when you do a show on Broadway with a cast every night from beginning to end (unlike when you make a TV show and you film the scenes out of order). She said, in theater, you start a journey together and end it together.

Rosie thanked Brooke for calling in and told her to call her when the show gets picked up!

THE ROSIE O'DONNELL TASTE TEST
Pete said he and the staff wanted to be supportive of Rosie's new "no sugar/no white flour diet" so he went to the health food store and get her some different kinds of snacks to try.  He picked up 10 different kinds of snacks and 4 different drinks for her to taste.  The drinks have no calories and no artificial sweeteners and the snacks had no processed flour or sugar.  Pete numbered the snacks and the drinks so that Rosie didn't  know the ingredients because he knew that she wouldn't try certain items if she knew some of the ingredients.

1.  Glenny's Cranberry and Almond Bar was up first.  Rosie described it as a "crunchy granola honey nut bar" and really liked it!
2.  Danielle Pineapple Chips  Rosie said they looked like Banana chips and loved them!  She said they were fantastic!  Pete said the only ingredients in them are fresh pineapple and palm oil.
3.  Then there was a fruit chew/fruit roll-up looking item.  Pete said it was a raspberry fruit bar and Rosie didn't like the taste or the consistency.
4.  Next up was a chewy fruit and vegetable bar.  Bobby said it was like chewing vinyl.  So, that was a NO.
5.  Then was Danielle Pumpkin Chips Rosie said they looked like pita chips and loved them!  Pete said the only ingredients in them were fresh pumpkin, palm oil and salt.  Rosie said she was shocked but she liked them!
6. Then was a Seaweed "beef jerky-ish" item and Rosie said it was gross and spit it out.  So did Janette.  Pete used to eat these growing up in Korea because he didn't have potato chips.
7. Next up was ak-mak Whole of the Wheat crackers.  Rosie described them as "pita chip looking" and thought they were Kashi crackers before tasting them.  She loved them!
8. Next up were freeze dried blueberries.  Rosie said they looked like raisins and ended up liking them!  Pete is a big fan of blueberries and drinks blueberry juice all the time. Rosie didn't love them but didn't hate them either.
9. Next were the Danielle JackFruit Chips.  Rosie thought they were plantain banana chips but she was wrong and she liked them!  Janette hated them.
10. Last was a Boysenberry fruit roll-up thing (but thicker).  Rosie only took a "baby bite" because she didn't like the consistency.

Rosie tried 4 different flavors of Hint Water that she loved!  She tried Pomegranate-Tangerine, Mango-Grapefruit, Blackberry and Watermelon.  They all have no calories and no artificial sweeteners!

She asked about the prices for the listeners and if the items were costly.  Janette warned that even though these are healthy foods one must be careful not to consume too much of them.  She said she has a very healthy diet but is still overweight because she eats too much.  She did think that Pete's snack alternatives would help Rosie resist craving of the bad stuff though!  Rosie thanked Pete for helping her and sounded excited about these new snack alternatives!!

THE ROSIE RADIO SUMMER PLAYLIST
Rosie and the staff were instructed to bring in 2 of their favorite summer tunes for a Rosie Radio Summer Playlist.

Pete chose:
1.  A Tom Waits song that I didn't really even have the chance to identify because Rosie started laughing and stopped the song.  She said it sounded like the Muppet Animal trying to sing and she vetoed it off the playlist. 2.  He then selected Groove Me by King Floyd.  Pete sang along.  Rosie wasn't sure about this choice either.

Janette chose: (and even before Janette listed off her songs Rosie said she has the worst taste in music)
1.  Dope "Die Mutherfucker Die".  For catharsis, she said.  Rosie only allowed one second of it to play and  then called Janette "a 14 year old boy who lives in a house with parents that he hates."  She vetoed it.
2. Life Is Beautiful by Sixx:AM and Rosie vetoed that too!  Rosie called it "too heavy metal" and Janette was sure that they have some fans that appreciates the same music as her.
3.  Voltsbeat: Still Counting and the lyrics included "You're a liar, your a cheater, your an asshole."  Rosie said her music was "very pathetic and she shouldn't be included."  She gave her a maybe for song number 2.

Deirdre chose:
1. Nancy Wilson "I Wish You Love"  She picked it because she loves jazz and it reminds her of summer.  Rosie was upset that they didn't fulfill their assignment which was upbeat summer songs for the beach!
2. Stone Temple Pilots "Interstate Love Song" She said it was an old song that reminds her of driving.  Rosie didn't like it either but accepted it.

Brendan chose: "Life is a Highway" by Tom Cochrane

Lou chose:  "Summertime by Will Smith"

James chose: "Can You Feel the Beat by Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam"

Bobby chose:
"Song for the Lonely by Cher"  Bobby said that Cher's a Goddess and should be on every list.
And he chose a Dusty Springfield song that Rosie vetoed before I could identify it.

Shoshana chose: Some Days You Gotta Dance by The Dixie Chicks

Rosie chose:
Say Hey (I Love You) by Michael Franti & Spearhead
I Wanna Be a Billionaire by Travie McCoy

Kelly chooses:
Free Fallin by either John Mayer or Tom Petty
Good Life by One Republic
and Jack Johnson Upside Down
Feel free to add your favorite summertime song in the comments!!  :)

After everyone listed off their songs Rosie continued about how much she hates Janette's musical choices because she thinks she just does it just to be a petulant teen - or to annoy Rosie.  Janette assured Rosie that those are the types of songs she actually listens to!  Bobby said that Janette's music is a little angry.
Shoshana said she was watching videos and saw a song that she thought would have been a great summertime song and then she realized it was a song by The Hanson's and she was horrified with herself.
Janette recommended Poker Face by "that gaga woman."  They played Poker Face and sang along and Pete didn't know any of the words which Rosie couldn't believe!  She said that's because he's busy being the only one on the planet listening to William Shatner's spoken word album.  And Rosie said she's now going to call Janette "Sid Vicious."

THE CATEGORY GAME
Brendan gave out the letters to ROSIE RADIO at the beginning of the game and each player was to list off as many items in a specific category that started with that letter.  They got double points for a 2 word item where both words started with the letter.  For example, if the category was celebrity and the letter was "R" they would get one point for Rosie O'Donnell and two points for Rachael Ray.

Rosie explained that she spent her life playing games like these and tried to teach Janette how to be better at it.  It didn't really work.  Janette said that she gets "game anxiety" and so does Jeannie.  Janette said she needs to try her boyfriend Barry's memory drops.

Rosie ended today's program playing Lady Gaga's Poker Face and singing along to the song making up her own words.  Some of the new lyrics included:
PaPaPaPaPaPaPaPa-Poker Face, Pete's a weirdo.
PaPaPaPaPaPaPaPa-Poker Face, Janette is worse.
PaPaPaPaPaPaPaPa-Poker Face, this show is bad.
PaPaPaPaPaPaPaPa-Poker Face, I'm visiting Parker right now.

7-29-10 - "The Show All About Family"

In case you missed it...

PARENTING TEENS, BEING A TEEN AND GETTING THROUGH THE TEENS
Rosie said it's only 10am and she's already had a parenting crisis.  Rosie has a 12 year old daughter named Chelsea who has been told she's not allowed to use the phone or to text.  Right now Chelsea is with Rosie's Ex visiting her grandparents in Louisiana and she got caught texting a 15 year old boy with her grandfather's Blackberry!   Rosie asked the staff if any of them had seen the movie Thirteen and said that she remembers originally watching it thinking it was all bullshit.  Now she's worried!  She said Chelsea is not at that point yet but she fears that could be her future.   Deirdre said that she wouldn't want to be a teen today and Janette said she wouldn't want to be a mother today. Rosie was watching the Biography special on her life and recalled what Suzanne Somers had said about Rosie not having a  mother growing up and never going through some of the things we have all gone through with our moms.   Rosie said when her friends would be mean to their mothers she remembers calling them out on it and telling them to just appreciate having a mom.  She never experienced the rebellion and breakaway from her mother.  Not having a mother has been the most defining aspect of Rosie's life.

Rosie remarked at how much easier it is to raise sons than daughters.  She said her boys, Blake and Parker, are like Velcro on her and tell her all their feelings.  It's not like that with Chelsea.  Deirdre assured Rosie that she went through the same thing with her mom.  Rosie said she needs a mom/teen support group.  Rosie had one huge disagreement with Parker ever.  A few years ago Blake had been battling with his learning disability and they were having to make all these concessions for Blake so he wouldn't have an explosion.  He had left a toy in a restaurant so Rosie ran back into the restaurant to retrieve it and when she got back to the car Parker was complaining about having to miss a show or an event and called Blake a retard.  This was also during the time that Rosie and Kelli were having problems.  Rosie admitted she snapped on Parker and when they got home she hit him in the head with a soft-covered dictionary.  After the fight she couldn't bear that she had hit him and took to her bed for several days, she got physically sick and could not stop crying.  She pleaded with Parker and told him that they could not have these fights.  She said that she loved him too much and she was too unstable to be having these huge arguments.  They never fought like that again.

Rosie was at a foundation dinner last night for her charity Rosie's Broadway Kids and she had a long conversation with one of the Board of Directors, Nancy Coyne, whom Rosie said is a lovely woman.  Nancy talked with Rosie all about the struggles she is having with Chelsea and the struggles she had with her own teenage daughter who is now in her 30s and doing fine.  She tried to reassure Rosie that it's all normal.  Rosie also called her friend Natasha Lyonne last night who was herself a rebellious teenager and almost killed herself abusing drugs. Natasha told Rosie that sometimes there's not a lot that you as a parent can do.  She told Rosie that it's Chelsea's journey and sometimes they are in each other's lives to just teach each other lessons.

Bobby said that he once made his mom so mad she threw a desk at him!  Pete's response to this story was AWESOME! And he asked if she had super powers?  Rosie assured listeners that Chelsea does not listen to the radio and not to write to her on her blog and tell her that she's acting out because Rosie keeps talking about her on the radio.

Rosie said that a lot of what Chelsea is going through also has to do with finding her own identity and her struggles with being adopted.  Rosie talked about the love she has for Chelsea and how she has told her that she is the star of the movie of her life and asked her if this is how she wants her movie to go? If she wants to be the rebellious teen that is always in struggles with her parents?

Chelsea even pushed Rosie once and Rosie had to advise Chelsea that she has rage issues and if she wants to stay alive she shouldn't push her.  Janette once hit her great Aunt Marty and has forever regretted doing it.  Janette pleaded with Rosie to not invalidate the good she has done as a mother because Chelsea has poor impulse control.  Rosie also admitted that being she is a lesbian she doesn't understand the boy craziness that Chelsea is going through.  In addition to that, Rosie had sex abuse issues so sex was never something Rosie wanted to do.  They talked about the sexualized society we live in today and sex on T.V.  Rosie said that Chelsea doesn't watch a lot of T.V. and all of her friends are from the Waldorf school she has been attending her entire life.

Rosie talked about the frustrations she has with teen clothes including the "booty shorts."  Chelsea has told her moms that she doesn't want to wear "boy shorts" like Rosie and Kelli wear.

A listener called in who was going through exactly what Rosie was going through with her teen-aged daughter.  They discussed their teens, sexting and how oral sex has become normal teenage behavior. The caller was a recovering alcoholic and Rosie talked with her about how that adds another layer to the teen issues as does Chelsea's issues with her being adopted.

Rosie is really worried because Chelsea looks much older for her actual age and she gets lots of attention from older men.  Rosie even is worried that Chelsea enjoys the attention she gets!

Natasha and Tracy have told Rosie that Chelsea has her own destiny to live out and all she can do is lead her in the right direction.  Janette reminded Rosie that Chelsea is not her.

BEING ADOPTED AND BEING THE PARENT OF AN ADOPTED TEENS
Rosie took a call from a listener who talked about his struggle with his adopted teenage son.  The caller had originally adopted his 5 year old son and it went very well.  Then he adopted his son's older sibling, who was 12 at the time, and has been through many struggles with the teen.  Rosie related that story to her girlfriend Tracy who adopted the older siblings of her younger children too.  Rosie said she has such empathy for the older adopted teens because they lived in foster homes for years.

Rosie has always been supportive to Chelsea when she talks about wanting to meet her birth family.  She has told her that as soon as she turns 18 she's allowed to go and meet her birth mom.  Chelsea has always expressed the desire to know her birth-mom.  When Chelsea was only three years old there were princesses on her curtains in her bedroom and Chelsea asked if that was her "tummy mommy" in the curtains because of the resemblance.  Parker and Blake have never really shown an interest.  Rosie and Janette talked about how meeting a birth family or birth mother might not alwways be what you hope it will be.  Rosie did say that years ago after a ferry accident in NYC Parker was so upset by it he cried and looked at Rosie and said "Why didn't my parents want me?"

BEING OVERWEIGHT AND LOVING SOMEONE WHO IS OVERWEIGHT
Rosie wanted to talk about what it's like to have someone in your life who's obese and how people deal with it.  She said that her Ex Kelli and her now girlfriend Tracy, have both expressed concern to Rosie about her weight because of the negative effects on her health.  Tracy doesn't want Rosie to die young and wants her to take better care of herself.  Rosie said there's a huge denial aspect of it for her when it comes to her weight.  She has been watching Season 3 of Ruby and she's even going to be on the reality series next season because she and Ruby have become friends!  In the episode she watched recently there was a moment when Ruby had the realization that she was fat.  She was 700 pounds and didn't realize she was fat.  She talked about how deep the denial goes and wondered if there was anything a loved one could do to help you out of that denial?

Brendan shared a story about his father who is overweight.  Brendan is not overweight at all but his father is almost 300 pounds.  After his father turned 60 he started worrying about losing him.  His father doesn't sleep well and always falls asleep when sitting.  One night his father fell asleep sitting up in his chair with his head back and seeing him that way scared Brendan.  Brendan started having tremendous guilt for never  saying anything to him about his weight.  He opened up to his mom about it and she revealed that his father's weight has been a struggle for them for their entire marriage.  His mom cried when Brendan talked to her about it partly because of her own guilt.

Brendan decided to call his dad and tell him that he wouldn't be able to go with him on the family vacation if his bad behavior and bad living habits didn't change.  He told him he couldn't sit back and support it anymore.  His father also drinks, but he's not an alcoholic.  He drinks and eats everything in excess.  His father explained to Brendan that he had his own plan and he would have to lose the weight at his own pace.  Brendan's dad has since gone on a diet and although he hasn't seen him in several months, he hears from his mom that he has lost some weight and there have been some improvements in his eating habits.

Brendan said he feared he would hurt his father by talking to him about his weight but what he really wanted to say to him was that he loved him and he didn't want him to die.  Rosie is really discouraged by her own weight and how she looks in pictures and she knows it's not healthy.  Rosie took a call from a listener who said that there's nothing anyone can say to her to convince her to change and she has to make the decision about what she chooses to eat.  But Brendan thinks that him saying something to his father helped his father make some changes and awaken from his denial.

Bobby, who has lost over 100 pounds, was confronted by Rosie after his friends all got together and came to her to tell her that they were worried about his weight.  Bobby thanks Rosie's intervention for saving his life and said that for him it was about facing the problem head on and trying to solve it.  He said he was in denial about his weight and how it was effecting his life. Bobby thinks that Rosie intervening definitely saved his life.

Janette was a heavy child and teen and it wasn't until she became an adult that she lost a significant amount of weight.  She said for her it was primarily emotional eating.  Janette has always admitted to herself that she was fat and that being fat was her reality.  She said that nothing that anyone has ever said to her regarding her weight made the slightest bit of difference except to drive her away from that person.  She has never struggled with denial over her weight and feels that the desire to lose weight needs to come from within.

Rosie said that the denial about her weight also spills onto other people around her.  When she went to the Fashion to Figure store in the mall the woman recommended Rosie buy a 1X so she did.  Rosie refuses to try on clothes in stores in fear that someone will see her change.  Half of the items she purchased were too small for her!  She said the denial is even apparent in the way other people see her.

Janette said that in general, Rosie doesn't take care of herself enough.  (Rosie joked and fired her)  Janette doesn't think Rosie has enough  self-love and self-forgiveness.  Rosie said that none of them are fat because they simply eat too much, they all have issues they're dealing with.  Rosie wondered how much the overeating actually differs from alcoholism?  Janette said you cannot make someone change but you can inspire them to do so.

Rosie took a call from a listener who had an intervention with his daughter.  She had been overweight her entire life and now as an adult she was especially overweight.  She had a miscarriage and was sure that the extra weight had something to do with it.  He and his wife offered to pay for her to have a stomach reduction surgery and she's never been happier!  Rosie said that she knows that millions of people have stomach surgery to lose weight and she knows many people who have done it and gained the weight back.  Rosie told the caller he was a great father for being so willing to discuss the issues with his daughter and to help her in the way that he did.

I struggle with my weight too.  This was a tough conversation for me.  I need to lose about 40 pounds and every time I begin a diet I fail.  It's depressing as hell.  I think for me I just eat TOO MUCH food.  I wish I had a sponsor I could call to talk about it.  I think that would help me a lot.  :(

MARY TRUNK THE WATERSHED
Rosie then introduced Mary Trunk who was on the phone to discuss her documentary The Watershed.  The Watershed is a documentary about Mary's extraordinary struggle she faced with her six siblings after they lost both parents to alcoholism and divorce.  Watch a free preview HERE.  Mary decided to do the documentary after she graduated from film school and she enrolled in a screenwriting class.  Rosie said that the documentary reminded her of The Glass Castle only covering a different issue.

Mary said she and her parents and siblings lived in Long Island until she turned 11 when they moved to California.  She said they were the perfect upper-middle class family.  When they lived in New York their life was ideal and once they came to California her father left her mother for another woman.  He eventually lost his job and she and her siblings spiraled into a world of poverty, welfare and food stamps.  And her mother started drinking heavily.  Mary said they were very good at keeping up appearances so that people didn't know about what was going on inside her home but about 3 or 4 years after her father left her mother her mother got very sick from alcohol and a neighbor stepped in.  She and her siblings lived with their Aunt and Uncle for a year who were then raising their own 3 kids at the time.  Rosie loves Mary's Aunt and Uncle and the scene in the documentary when her Uncle cried.  Mary said they lived with her Aunt and Uncle for about a year and it was really a magical time.  They had been living with no food.

It was Mary's sister Maggie who wrote in to Rosie through her blog and told her about her sister's documentary.  In the film Mary talks about how Maggie would pretend to have a scavenger hunt and put food on the list in order to get something to eat.  Mary said that she and her siblings were all survivors and her brother sold his mother's wedding ring for 50 cents so he could buy lunch at school one day.

Rosie asked Mary if she was very angry when she was interviewing her father because Rosie couldn't believe some of the things he said in the film.  Mary explained that she worked very hard to keep him talking and to not get him defensive.

In the film Mary discusses how divorce at the time was such a stigma and Rosie said she remembered when her childhood friend Jackie's parents got divorced and how scandalous it was at the time.  Rosie said that it was hard for her to even tell people that her mother had passed away and she remembers solicitors calling the house and asking to speak to her mother and Rosie would tell them that she was in the shower.  She was too embarrassed to tell them that her mother had died.

Rosie asked Mary how she and her siblings have stayed so close?  Mary explained that she and her siblings are all very close in age and their parents always treated them as a unit without a lot of individuality.  She said that feeling transferred to them feeling like a unit as they got older too.  They still get together every year on the anniversary of their mother's death.

Mary feels like through making "The Watershed" she was able to learn who her parents really were and why they became that way.  In the end she ended up feeling compassion for them.  Rosie recommended her listeners get The Watershed on Amazon Video on Demand

OBAMA ON THE VIEW AND HOW MEDIA HAS CHANGED
Rosie asked Brendan and Pete about President Obama who had been on The View during today's broadcast.   The other day the staff of Rosie Radio discussed Obama being on the View for about 20 seconds on the air and every media station was talking about what she said!  Here's a link to a Huffington Post article about itI have to agree.  She mentioned the topic so briefly that I didn't even cover it in my recap.  It was almost an afterthought!  I couldn't believe when I saw her quote everywhere on the Internet.  Wild.  Brendan didn't hear the interview but had The View on muste during today's program and said it looked exactly like when Obama was on the campaign trail.  Brendan said that that's when he realized why Obama would even do that program, he's trying to tell people that he's still the same guy that they voted for.  Rosie thinks that Obama needs to run the country and going on The View seems like a frivolous thing to do. Janette said that all politicians ever do is campaign.  Bobby watched the White House Communications Director yesterday who said that Obama does these types of programs in order to get a message out to people who he might not normally reach on the typical news programs.  They talked about how it feels odd when a sitting President does daytime talk shows like Oprah and the View.  Bobby thinks the media has changed today and Presidents need to use many different ways to reach the people.

7-28-10 - "The Gayest Show Ever"

In case you missed it...

THE COLONY, THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT, PORN, LESBIANISM AND HUMAN SEXUALITY
Rosie began the show immediately discussing the premiere episode of the Discovery Show The Colony that they all had agreed to watch last night.  Rosie said she HATES the show and she thinks it should be banned from television.  She called it "the worst show on television" and said she was completely horrified by it.  Here's a link to a description of the Colony.  Rosie said the program was already sad right from the start because it was filmed in a place destroyed by Katrina.  Bobby and Deirdre loved it!  Rosie explained that the fighting in the episode really bothered her and said it made her upset that people were physically hurt for the sake of entertainment.  Rosie said the show exploits the worst aspects of humanity and thinks it should be taken off the air.  Janette thinks there's a danger when you begin to visualize and enact a potential situation that is so horrible.  Rosie related it to the time in our television's history when show's like Jerry Springer and Geraldo Rivera were popular and made violence acceptable television.  Bobby loved the overall idea of seeing if people can rebuild their society.  One of Janette's problems with the show was how they killed animals for no actual reason except for entertainment value.  Rosie thought the entire show was disturbing and that there was no redeeming value in it.  Rosie compared the show's premise to how we now color code our fear through the nation's terror alert.  She absolutely hated the show and said she had trouble sleeping afterwards.

Rosie took several callers to discuss "The Colony." One caller loved the first season and still loves it, violence and all.  Another caller said shows like "The Colony" desensitize us to violence and made him fear that we're ruining our selves.  Rosie said the program reminded her of the Milgram experiment.  Janette bets the show is going to get good reviews and people are going to watch it.  They looked for some reviews online of this season but couldn't find any.  Rosie enjoys the show's producers' other programs like The Deadliest Catch but feels as if they have "jumped the shark" with this program.

Rosie and Tracy went to see The Kids Are All Right about two gay moms whose children meet their sperm donor father and what happens as a result.  Rosie loved Mark Ruffalo and all the actors in the film and she thought overall it was a great movie.  Rosie did say that she and Tracy were the only lesbian couple in the theater and that made her uncomfortable during the lesbian love scene.  In the movie, Rosie said the couple watches gay male porn.  She liked the explanation that the mom gives to her teen about why they watched men having sex.  In the movie she says that a lot of  women's sexuality is internal so sometimes it's good to see the external proof of excitement.  Rosie said that she knows lots of gay women who watch male porn including herself (when she's in the mood).  Rosie explained that when she sees women in porn she begins to worry about the women and what drove them to making porn and it becomes very distressing rather than arousing.  Then she wants to call the porn "actresses" and have a therapy session.  Rosie said that with male porn she's sure they're having a good time because of the "physical proof!"   Deirdre is friends with someone from Triangle films that creates lesbian porn for women and suggested it to Rosie.  Rosie said she wanted physical proof with women that they're having a good time before she can enjoy it.

Rosie said a lot of lesbians and lesbian bloggers were upset over the movie "The Kids Are All Right" because one of the moms has an affair with the sperm donor.  Rosie thought it was very believable.  She understood how the character could fall for the father of her son because of the connection they shared and how he reminded her of her son.   Janette understands why many lesbians would be upset by this because they were probably looking forward to a film that reaffirms their personal reality.  Rosie said that just because you're with a woman doesn't mean you could never be attracted to or fall in love with a man.  Rosie doesn't think sexuality is so black and white.  Janette said that perhaps lesbians are sick of hearing the phrase "If you'd just meet a nice man you'd get over that lesbian thing" and that this movie touches a nerve for them.

A listener called in to say that she was disappointed that there had to be a relationship with the lesbian mom and the sperm donor and that in many lesbian movies this is a common theme.  She cited Kissing Jessica Stein and Chasing Amy as examples.  She understood that women (even lesbians) can be attracted to men but just wished they could have made a film that didn't have that storyline involved in it.  Rosie said that the movie hit home for her about the ending of a relationship and she loved the line in the film when the girl came home and said "so now we're not the perfect lesbian family?"  She said she was crying in the car on the way home last night and it really got to her.  A listener (who is resubscribing to Sirius because of Rosie Radio!) said she loved the reality of the film and thought dealing with the issue of the lesbian having an affair with a man is a real issue and we cannot label human sexuality.

EH PROVES SHE KNOWS NOTHING AGAIN, ROSIE HAS STAPH AND A TEETH UPDATE
Rosie came back from break talking about human sexuality and how it's on a continuum and how all people fall somewhere on it.  They then played Elisabeth Hasselbeck's recent comments on the View when they discussed the recent increase of women coming out later in life.

Rosie simply stated "Oh Dear Lord, save me from this woman."  Bobby wrote down EH's exact quote and read it.   "We've done studies that women aren't necessarily needing something sexual, they're needing something in terms of companionship."  Janette asked where were these studies done at The Institute of Studying Steel?!  Janette said that was the stupidest thing she's ever heard Elisabeth say, even worse than the Institute of Studying Steel comment.  Rosie said that Joy's head looked like it was going to explode and said she's worried she created a monster.

Brendan spent all last night searching for the comments by Bill Geddes on the December 2nd, 2009 episode of The View when they were discussing Meredith Baxter coming out.  Brendan said that Bill commented that he thinks women are getting older and older and aren't able to get men so they turn to women.  Barbara Walters said something to Bill like "You're being a bit narrow-minded."  He couldn't find the clip anywhere!  But the whole point of it was that it is proof that Elisabeth is merely Bill Geddes puppet and she just reiterates the talking points he gives her every morning.

Rosie doesn't hate Elisabeth and had to stop the "EH bashing session" although they did have a ton of calls on the topic.  Bobby really liked EH in person until she would get on T.V. Bobby said what really ruined his opinion of her was when Kathy Griffin was on the show and she YAWNED from boredom.   He said that was absolutely rude.  Janette said that EH's arrogance is now her downfall.

Rosie said she went to the doctor's yesterday for her mysterious skin condition and the diagnosis is staph.  She said that a listener called in two days ago and was sure this was what Rosie had.  (They played the audio from the call)  Rosie is applying topical lotion to her wound and talking Sulfa medication. She has it covered but Janette brought Clorox wipes just in case!

A listener called in for an update on Rosie's teeth.  Rosie said her top teeth are done and tomorrow her bottom teeth will be done.  The caller was a dental hygienist and asked if Rosie would post a picture of the  final result.

TARGET SUPPORTING THE LGBT COMMUNITY AND RO'S ROOSTERS GET A HOME
Rosie said that she's been getting lots of emails asking her why she continues to go to Target because they are anti-gay.  The reason that LGBT groups are upset with Target is because Target donated $150,000 to MN Forward that supports candidate Tom Emmer.  Emmer opposes gay marriage and one of Emmer's cohorts calls homosexuality an abomination.  Target has come out and said they have unwavering support for the LGBT community and for gay rights. Bobby said that Target gives a huge check to Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS every year and ever cynical Janette reminded everyone that no corporation gives out these donations out of the goodness of their hearts.  She reminded everyone to follow the money and then you will find out why any corporation gives to charities and political campaigns.  The staff then talked about how corporate interests own our country.  HERE is a link to the article Pete provided on Rosie.com about Target's political donations.

Rosie took a call from a listener that offered to take their roosters off their hands.  Rosie and Tracy have a chicken coop and recently discovered that two of their chickens are roosters.  Because of the noise ordinance where they live and the fact that roosters aren't always great with children, they have to find them a home.  Tracy wants the roosters to go to a home that will not kill them.  This caller has family that are Mennonites who have a farm.  He offered to stop by the house and pick up the roosters and take them to his family's farm.  Rosie chatted with him for a bit and had him set up a date and time to come and get the birds.

Janette said she loves radio because they're saving lives!  (as in the roosters)  Rosie was again taken aback by Janette's unwavering love of animals and told her to watch the documentary about the woman who started PETA entitled I Am an Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk.   Janette hasn't seen it but and said she doesn't even really know why she can handle war and crimes of humanity but she cannot handle cruelty to animals.

Rosie said that her girlfriend Tracy often says to her that she thinks Janette would make a good mother and she wanted to bring the kids down to the radio house to play with her someday.  Rosie just smiles at Tracy and says "Oh, that's so sweet but you really don't know her."  Janette admitted that she doesn't feel maternal at all and that she doesn't hate kids but she does fear them.

HASIDIC JUDAISM AND THE GIDDY AND PEARL STORY
Rosie said that when her youngest daughter Vivi was a baby she was performing in Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway.  Whenever Vivi would see a Hasidic Jew at Target or at the mall Vivi would tug on his leg and say "you're my favorite tradition man" because she thought that every Hasidic Jew she saw was from the play Fiddler.  Rosie recently saw a group of young Hasidic Jews at the airport and Vivi was asking about them and why they dress the way they do.  She wanted to ask them but Rosie explained to her that typically Hasidic Jews are not very friendly towards people outside their group.  One of the men had on crocs and a big straw hat over his traditional hat and Rosie chatted with him about it.  She told him he was one of the most overtly friendly Hasidic Jews she has ever met.  She said that later on his friends seemed horrified that he had even spoken to her.  Rosie's girlfriend Tracy grew up in Texas and never knew anything about Hasidic Jews.  Rosie said they are fascinating to her and so is trying to explain their culture to Tracy.

Rosie said that years ago the phone rang in her craft room and the person on the other end kept asking for Giddy.  The phone rang over and over and she kept telling the callers that there was no Giddy at that number.  Finally, a woman named Giddy called and she ended up talking to her for an hour!  Giddy thought for sure that she knew Rosie from Temple but Rosie explained that she is not Jewish.  Giddy was married to a Rabbi and explained to her that her mother had died and she was doing a year of Shiva.  She then 3-way-called her sister Pearl and the 3 women chatted some more.  Rosie asked Giddy why the Hasidic Jews won't make conversation with her and Giddy told Rosie that that was because she has a Goyish face and they stick to their own.

The next day Ro went to Target and there was a Hasidic Jewish woman with her 3 daughters.  Rosie struck up a conversation with her and she introduced her daughters to Rosie.  The three girls were named Giddy, Pearl and Rose!  ZOINKS!  Giddy and Rosie were supposed to have dinner together but haven't yet.  Rosie asked if there has ever been a movie about Hasidic Judaism besides Yentl?  Rosie said there was a great documentary she watched recently called Trembling Before God about Judaism and being gay.

Rosie said today is "the gayest show ever" because of all the topics and because of their next guest Josh Kilmer-Purcell from the Fabulous Beekman Boys

JOSH KILMER-PURCELL FROM THE BEEKMAN BOYS
Rosie then introduced Josh Kilmer-Purcell from The Fabulous Beekman Boys who was in the studio to talk about his book I Am Not Myself These Days.  Rosie loved it and called it a wonderful read.  Josh's other book is entitled The Bucolic Plague which Rosie also loved.  Rosie and Tracy are going to Josh and his partner's farm in September to stay there during the Harvest Festival.

In "I Am Not Myself These Days" Josh tells the story of the year when he dated a prostitute and drug addict.  Josh explained that he had just moved to New York at the time and was working in advertising by day.  He then began working as a drag queen named Aquadisiac by night.  One night at a club he met a very handsome man that he thought was a doctor because he carried a pager and took him back to a gorgeous penthouse apartment.  After seeing each other for a while, they went back to the apartment one night and there was a big naked man tied up on the floor.  His boyfriend then explained to Josh that he was a high-end escort.  Josh was okay with it at the time and they fell madly in love.  Not too long after seeing each other Josh realized that his new love was also addicted to crack cocaine.  As their relationship progressed his boyfriend got heavier and heavier into the drugs.  Josh would come home and he would be baking crack in their kitchen.  Josh and his boyfriend were only together for a year but it felt epic to him so he wrote the book.

Josh wrote the book 10 years after the relationship ended upon reflection of what it meant to him. In the end, Josh said that the relationship was about him exploring and differentiating between what is true and good and what is bad in the world.  After the book was published Josh got in touch with the his ex-boyfriend and he ended up being okay with the story being written about their relationship.

Rosie asked how is current partner Brent feels about the book.  Josh said it's so far out of Brent's reality that he can't even comprehend the book.  He talked about the time he was at Martha Stewart and she asked him what he did for a living.  He told her about the book and it's premise and her response to him was "Are you normal now?"

Josh's book has been "optioned" for a TV series!  The series is in development now but they are making his character into a married closeted power broker who secretly does drag at night.  Rosie told Josh that Bobby was a drag queen too!  Bobby's name was Beverly Hills and he could sing!  Rosie said that Bobby was also really funny and he looked better than Rosie ever did with make-up on.  She said that both of them look better with make-up than her and she finds that very annoying.

Today Josh loves living on the farm although he wishes he could be there full-time and didn't have to go back and forth to the city for work.  He said tonight's episode is interesting because Farmer John is recovering from surgery.   Josh thought that John could recuperate in the house so Brent and John could bond.  He said it wasn't a good plan.

Josh and Rosie joked about when she and Tracy are going up to visit them in September and how they're going to wear matching pajamas!  You can watch The Fabulous Beekman Boys on Planet Green tonight

After coming back from commercial break they played the song "Keep It Gay" from the Broadway musical The Producers in honor of their gayest show ever.

Keep It Gay from The Producers

A (NON-GAY) GAME
Brendan announced that today's game was a non-gay game even though it was the gayest show ever and it would be a T.V. related game since Jeannie wasn't here.  Jeannie's not a fan of the T.V. trivia games because she always loses at them.  Brendan listed off 3 characters from a sitcom and the player had to name the sitcom.

ROUND ONE
Deirdre - Cliff, Claire and Rudy.  The answer was The Cosby Show and she got it.
Rosie - Arnold, Boom Boom and Vinny Barbarino.  The answer was Welcome Back Cotter and she got it.

Pete - Jason Sever, Mike Sever and Carol Sever.  The answer was Growing Pains and he didn't get it so he was OUT!
Janette - Paul Buckman, Jamie Stemple and Ira Buckman.  The answer was Mad About You but she didn't get it so she was OUT.
Bobby - Andy, Barney and Opey.  The answer was The Andy Griffith Show but he guessed the Andy Williams Show which was wrong so he was OUT.

ROUND THREE
Deirdre - Jessica Tate, Mary Cambpell and Jodi Dallas.  The answer was Soap but she guessed Golden Girls so she was OUT.
Rosie - (to win it)  Julia Sugarbaker (was all they had to say and she yelled out...)  Designing Women!
Rosie won!!!

Since she's such a gracious winner, she then sang a song rubbing her win in everyones face especially Pete's because he hates to lose.  She then picked out her sticker for the board that is keeping track of the wins and losses this month in the Rosie Radio studio.

Just before the show ended she took an un-screened caller to see what they wanted.  After the caller recovered from the shock of Rosie answering the telephone, the caller asked if they had gotten the name of a good Hasidic Jewish movie yet?  She recommended The Chosen with Robby Benson.

Brendan said that listeners had been calling in recommending A Price Above Rubies where Renee Zellweger plays a Hasidic Jew.  And they had calls recommending movies on the Amish including Witness and Kingpin.
Rosie closed the show.

THE JERSEY SHORE HITS ROSIE RADIO, SNOOKI AND GETTING INTO GIRL FIGHTS
Rosie and the crew sang the theme song to Rosie Radio with a Jersey accent today in honor of the Jersey Shore episode that they all watched last night!  Rosie said it is her ex-girlfriend Michelle Blakely's birthday today.  Rosie said that Vivi asked her recently if she ever kissed anyone besides Kelli Mommy and Tracy?  Rosie told her yes but decided not to list off everyone she has ever kissed for Viv.

Rosie saw the promo for the new season the The Jersey Shore that premieres this Thursday and asked the other staff members to watch an episode online last night so they could get caught up.  She said she wants to "be hip" and wants everyone to watch it so that they don't miss out on what everyone talking about.  And I just cannot even explain how happy this makes me!  They picked the episode when Snooki gets punched in the face.  Rosie had to explain to her girlfriend last night that she had to watch the Jersey Shore "for work."  Hmm, mmmmm.  Riiiiiight.  You know you just want to get down with the GTL!    Rosie wondered if it was common in college to have sex with other couples having sex in beds in the same room with you (in reference to the episode they watched).  Seen it happen, that's all I'm saying.  Jeannie said it isn't "common" but isn't uncommon either.  James said that one of the guys in the cast is 29 years old and not exactly "college aged."  And they're not all Italian either.  Rosie was surprised that the cast members seemed nicer than she thought they were going to be though she did not think they had a high intelligence level necessarily.  Rosie said the show was more normal than she expected.  And Jeannie thought this was because they grew up on Long Island.  They then discussed the men's bodies and whether or not they've used steroids which James thought they did.

Snooki doing the promos for Season 2!

Rosie went to the Jersey Shore for a week and it looked nothing like the shore that they showed on the series.  James explained that that is because they film the show at Seaside Heights, not Love Ladies where Rosie and Tracy went.  Rosie suggested that they tape Rosie Radio from the Jersey Shore next year during the first week of summer!!!!!  James said that if they're going to do it, they have to do it at Seaside.  Rosie wondered who they could they get to sponsor it?!  The mere thought of spending a week at the beach with the the Rosie Radio staff made Janette start sweating.  Watching it last night made Rosie want to go to Seaside Heights and do the show from there so badly.

Janette said that the character Snooki is her favorite.  Rosie discussed a mean NY Times article written about her and said she would like to interview her.  Rosie wondered if perhaps Snooki won't do the show because she's gotten too famous for her.  Deirdre couldn't believe Rosie suggested that Snooki was too famous for them and said she would book her.  The staff then discussed "the punch heard round the world (of Seaside)" when Snooki was punched in the face by a guy at the bar.  Brendan explained that the only time the punch ever aired was in the promo for the next episode because various women's groups and anti-domestic violence organizations protested the airing.  Here is a link to the video of Snooki getting punched in the face if you're wondering what all the hub bub is about.  I have to admit this is all old news to me because I watch the show religiously.    That's so yesterday's news.

Rosie asked why Snooki is so popular and asked for listeners to call in.  She took a few callers on the subject and also asked listeners to write into her via AskRo.  One caller suggested that through watching the show viewers grew to love her and are now protective of her.  She said that we can all relate to her because we all have someone in our lives like her.

Rosie and Jeannie talked about the time that they almost got into a rumble at the movie theater and Rosie dropped (and possibly lost?) her varsity jacket.  Rosie also told a story of the time her sister almost got into a fight with someone.  Her friend snuck her out of class with a fake pass and Rosie threatened to fight this girl who had tripped her sister.  The next day the gym teacher had heard about the impending fight and suggested that they arm wrestle in gym that day.  She purposely put Rosie up against the girl she was supposed to fight.  When Rosie won the match she looked at the other girl and said "get the point?"  As in, if you fight Roseann you're going to get your ass kicked!  There was never a fight after that.    Rosie ended the conversation telling listeners that they were going to be watching the show and discussing it.

Season 2 of The Jersey Shore premieres this Thursday at 10pm!

THE COLONY, THE PASSAGE AND ROSIE'S MYSTERIOUS SKIN CONDITION
Deirdre is obsessed with a new show called The Colony.   In The Colony, a new group of volunteers with differing backgrounds, skills and personalities, bear witness to how they would survive and rebuild in a world without electricity, running water, government or outside communication. Over the course of 10 episodes, the colonists must work to utilize and strengthen their exploration, technology and survival skills in ways they've never had to before. [source: Discovery.com]

The Colony premieres tonight at 10pm!

Deirdre said she would do it in a heartbeat!  Rosie recommended the book The Passage to Deirdre and to a listener who called in to discuss it.  In response to the show and to the book that Rosie was talking about Janette said "we're preparing for a world that she doesn't want to live in."

Rosie said that she is sure that her mysterious skin condition that she has been battling is either Poison Oak or Shingles and said that she has a doctor's appointment today to find out.  She said she will let the listeners know what the diagnosis is.

WEENIE HAS A SEA WATER ENEMA, TATTOOS, 3RD NIPPLES AND JAMES WANTS A TAT
Jeannie and Rosie talked about their fabulous weekend they had in Miami this past weekend.  Rosie asked Jeannie to share the story of what happened to her when they went tubing.  Rosie explained that they have an old 3 seater tube that is falling apart that they drag behind the boat.  On one trip, Jeannie sat in the middle with Jackie's daughter on one side and her daughter on the other side.  She was the heaviest on the tube and therefore her butt was getting the maximum impact of the water as Rosie drove the boat and sped along the water.  When they were riding along she was screaming "MY ASS!  MY ASS!" because she said she felt the water going up her ass!  Rosie and Jackie heard Jeannie screaming but couldn't tell what she was saying so they didn't stop.  Jeannie said it was painful and there was a huge amount of seawater going up her ass but she didn't want to stop because it was so fun.  The next morning however, Jeannie went to get ready to go on the boat again and she said her stomach exploded like the scene in the movie Dumb and Dumber!  She even had an accident on the way to the bathroom.  Rosie doubted that Jeannie could have have held the seawater in her ass for 14 hours!

For Weenie...

Jeannie also got her first tattoo when they were in Miami and now she wants to get a tattoo around her 3rd nipple.  She wants a flower tattoo around her third nipple so that the center of the flower is the nipple itself.  There was some discussion of Jeannie's third nipple and what it resembled and Rosie said that if she got the tattoo she would be the hit of happy hour the next time they all went out!  Jeannie said she has no anxiety and no regret about her tattoo she got this weekend and that is what makes her happiest about it.  She admitted that the tattoo is a little more animated then she had envisioned but she's okay that it's not perfect.  And she's happy that she's okay with it.  She said that the next time she gets a tattoo she would go in with more specifics like her daughter who was totally specific about what she wanted - this being her 5th tattoo.

James said that he wants to get a tattoo and Rosie offered to give him his tattoo as a gift done by her favorite tattoo artist Anil Gupta.  Rosie originally saw Anil's work on TV and went to him so he could fix a bad tattoo of hers.  He told her he doesn't do "cover-ups" and bringing him a bad tattoo to fix is like bringing a dirty canvas to an artist.  Eventually, he did her cover-up as long as she promised that she would allow him to tattoo her on a clean piece of skin.  She did.  When her magazine lawsuit ended and she was pronounced innocent she went to Anil and got "truth" tattooed on the back of her neck.

James is seriously considering getting a tattoo except for the fact that his mom would have a problem with it.  Rosie told James to just remind his mom that he's gay and that would remind her to be more upset about that and she'd forget about the tattoo.  James said he wasn't sure what tattoo he wanted but said he wanted it to be something "vaguely Staten Island-ish and stupid Italian."  He thought perhaps an Italian Cross on his bicep.  Pete said he would only ever want a Star Trek tattoo but felt that it wouldn't be right to get a Star Trek tattoo without getting his daughter's names tattooed on him first.  He said he shouldn't do Star Trek if he won't do his kids.

Deirdre is going back to Anil in August and she and Anil have been working on her next one together.  Anil is one of the best tattoo artists in the country and Rosie insisted on treating James.  She then joked with James that he should get a protein shake or a cross with headphones as his tattoo.

CHICKENS, THE BEEKMAN BOYS, AND JANETTE BRAKES FOR ANIMALS
Rosie said they have two mean roosters in the chicken coop who aren't especially good with the kids and they have to get rid of them.  She expressed wanting to give them to the Beekman Boys when she and Tracy go visit them in September but said that she is concerned that they can't wait that long.  Deirdre and Janette reminded Rosie that Josh from the Beekman Boys is going to be on the show tomorrow.  Rosie asked if Deirdre would call him and ask him to bring a cage to take the roosters home with him after the interview.

Apparently Tracy went out to the chicken coop the other night and there was a skunk near it!  She chased it away with a rake but they also put out a trap because skunks kill chickens.  First they caught a baby raccoon and last night they put out a can of tuna and all the skunk ate all the tuna but there was no skunk to be found.  Rosie said it's a smart skunk.  Janette asked where the animals will go once they catch them and Rosie said that her exterminator Joe releases them into the wild far from the house.  Joe was on the program in the fall because Janette found mouse poop on her desk.  Joe killed the mice to get rid of them and to this day it still upsets Janette who feeld responsible for their deaths.  Janette explained that it's not that she's a vegetarian, she understands the food chain, but she likes animals to die with dignity and for a reason.  She never wants and animal to be killed for just being.  She isn't sure what caused this change in her but thinks it may have to do with her relationship with her cats and how much she loves them.  She is surprised that none of her charity work is about animals though when the needless killing of animals upsets her so much.  Janette even appreciates hunting because at least the animals in the wild had a good life and weren't factory  raised.   Jeannie said that Janette reminded her of a bumper sticker that used to infuriate her father.  He hated the bumper sticker "I brake for animals" because he would say "What, and you don't brake for humans?"  Jeannie said that Janette might be the type of person that her father was referring to.

Rosie briefly stated that she and Tracy are going to see the movie The Kids Are All Right.

The Kids Are All Right

And Rosie said that the new Mel Gibson tapes that have been released finally have no effect on her.  She said she has now desensitized herself from his rage.

TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT, WORKING OUT AND REDUCING SUGAR INTAKE
Rosie attempted to work out yesterday.  She talked to Tracy about how badly she feels about her weight and Tracy encouraged Rosie to walk with her.  Tracy had to practically pull Rosie along with her but Rosie at least did some walking yesterday.  Janette talked about a recent article she read about the dangers of being sedentary and how it contributes to practically every horrible illness.  Rosie said she never looked or felt better than when she did a Broadway show and hopes to do another one someday  Rosie said she would love to be Miss Hannigan in the 2012 revival of Annie on Broadway!  She even hopes that maybe her daughter Vivi could be one of the orphans too.  OMG, someone get me tickets to that!  Right?!  Rosie said her goal is to try to move more and workout more.  Janette suggested swimming laps since she has a pool. Rosie said she might try her Wii Fit, the Wii Balance Board or even Yoga.  She has already made plans to start back with Pilates next Thursday.  Shoshana recommended Rosie make a moderate goal to start with and said that is what helped her work up to running 4 miles!  She did the Couch to 5K running program and it really worked for her!  Pete started the program with Shoshana but hasn't kept up with it as she has.  Shoshana now runs 4 miles 3 days a week!  She still hates running but she said she lives guilt free because of it.

Rosie took several callers on the topic of dieting and weight loss.  One caller recommended the website FoodAddicts.org which is a 12-step program.  She said it's the only thing that's ever worked for her.  She even has a sponsor and she gets to be a sponsor towards another member.  Janette did Overeaters Anonymous but said that Weight Watchers was the program that has always worked best for her.  Rosie once did Weight Watchers and shared a story at a meeting about some men hitting on her and how uncomfortable it made her feel.  Instead of support and understanding other members just told her she should feel lucky.  She said there's not enough emotional support for her at Weight Watchers    Tracy has been trying to encourage Rosie to change her mindset as to why she wants to lose the weight.  She told her to think of it that she wants to do it for her health, not necessarily for her looks.  Rosie talked about how much she appreciates Tracy and her enthusiasm for life and how much Tracy makes her laugh.  Janette said that Tracy is Janette's favorite girlfriend that Rosie has ever had.

Rosie took a call from a flight attendant that said Rosie's huge weight gain from the weekend was "JetBelly"  from flying and that flight attendants get it often.  She told Rosie that her body just needed to deflate from the flight.

Rosie commented on how nice people are to her. She said she was asked if fans/strangers have ever been mean to her (to her face) and she could really only recall one time someone has been really rude to her because she's "Rosie O'Donnell."  One time she was flying to Miami with Blake and the flight attendant was trying to help them so that they could sit together by asking people if they could move seats.  After they got to Miami a man kept cutting her off with his luggage cart in the airport and she asked the man if he was aware that he was doing it.   He looked at her and said "I know who you are and I don't like who you are and I would not change seats with you because I know who you are Rosie O'Donnell."  Rosie just replied "Lovely to meet you sir."  Blake looked up at Rosie and said "Boy, that guy is in a bad mood!"  Rosie also recalled the time when Howard Stern hated her for 10 years and boys at the mall used to stick their tongues out at her and say "Blah, Blah Blooey!!!"

WHAT CONSTITUTES A HEALTHY DRINK AND WEENIE SPORTS A BUMPIT
Janette discussed an article she read how Coca Cola was denied the right to dismiss a lawsuit against them that challenges the health claims of Vitamin Water.   Someone is suing Coca Cola for claiming that Vitamin Water is healthy without meeting certain requirements.  The staff discussed the article and what constitutes a healthy drink.  Pete and Shoshana felt that since it does have vitamins it is better for you than soda.  Janette's point was that soda doesn't make claims that it's healthy for you but Vitamin Water does.  Janette also talked about how she now uses a stainless steel water bottle because of the dangers that plastic can do to your drinks when it is heated.  She also has stopped using plastic bottles because of the waste to our environment.

Someone mentioned going to a meeting Food Addicts meeting and they looked up meetings in Rosie's area.   Jeannie and Rosie mentioned how they do not want Jillian Michaels on the show to help them lose weight because they both said she scares them.  (Sorry Heidi and Michele!)

Jeannie was sporting a Bumpit during today's show and Shoshana and Rosie liked the look on her!  Pete said it was hideous.  Rosie then said she'd post of picture of Jeannie in her Bumpit on her blog.

PETE'S GAME
He listed off 3 items of food and the player had to put them in order from least calories to most.

Janette - A medium hard-boiled egg, a Cadbury cream egg and 1/2 cup of Wegmans egg salad. The answer was the hardboiled egg, the Cadbury egg and then the egg salad.  She got it wrong (by accident) and was out.
Jeannie - One serving of Starbucks pumpkin pound cake, 1/2 pint of skim milk, and a chai latte with skim milk.  The answer was the skim milk, the latte, and then the poundcake.  She got it right!
James (? bad notes sorry!)  - A single rice cake, a serving of Rice Krispies and a serving of rice pilaf.  He said the rice cake, then the Rice Krispies and then rice pilaf.  He was right!
Shoshana - A bottle of Grape Crush Soda, a glass of champagne and then Welch's grape juice.  The answer was Champagne, then Grape juice then the soda.  She was right!
Rosie -  one ounce of Cheetos, 2 tablespoons of jalapeno Cheddar Cheese dip and a McDonald's cheeseburger.  The answer was the cheese dip then the Cheetos then the Cheeseburger.  She guessed wrong.
Everyone got the second round wrong!  (but they read the items off so fast I couldn't keep up!)

Rosie closed the show suggesting that listeners watch The Colony and America's Got Talent tonight because they will be discussing them tomorrow!

and that's what you missed -kw
