In case you missed it...

•  Rosie started the show announcing that "the Supernanny" was on Rachael Ray.  (Because Rosie frequently watches T.V. on mute while she's taping the radio show.)  Rosie said she loves Jo Frost (the supernanny).  Rosie asked Deirdre if she liked her job and Deirdre said "YES, because she doesn't have to shower."  Deirdre said it was better than working on T.V.  Pete brought the studio staff a dozen donuts which Rosie thought was counterintuitive to the weight-loss plan they were all supposed to be on. Google Pete has already had 1570 calories today (by about 10am).

•  Rosie announced how in honor of Howard Stern's birthday they would be talking all about sex in the first part of today's show.  Rosie said that before the show started today they were all talking about dominating sex.  Janette added that she once had a lover who enjoyed being "the dominator."  Janette said "There's a huge power in submission."  Rosie couldn't repeat the story Janette told everyone earlier.  Janette said she once had a date with a CPA she met on AOL who told her on their second date she would have to be "on all fours and call him her master." There wasn't ever a second date. Before her current boyfriend Barry, Janette used to scare Rosie with her "sex-capades."  Janette once had 4 different personalities on the computer where she would meet men.  She also told a story about going overseas to meet a man she'd never met in person.  She went over there and he wasn't the most physically attractive man, but he had a great story.  She never got to see him again because Rosie hired her for The Rosie O'Donnell Show.  Rosie asked Janette about how many men has she been with and Janette replied possibly close to 3 digits!  WhoooHoo Janette!!  Janette estimated the number because she admitted to stopping counting when she was in her 20s.

•  In the midst of the sex talk Rosie mentioned how she would like some colorful tights since Chelsea, her 12 year old, complained that one of the 5 most annoying things about having Rosie as a mom was that she always wears black.  Rosie asked where she could get some really colorful, crazy tights and Deirdre recommended American Apparel.  Deirdre briefly mentioned how she stopped shopping there for a while because of the controversy over the CEO and founder Dov Charney but they are the only place she can find the best leggings.

•  Then it was back to the sex talk.  Deirdre told a story from how she and her now boyfriend Ted, had sex on their fourth date in Central Park.  Janette added that she likes to have sex outside and told a story of one time when her father was visiting she and her boyfriend left the apartment and kept stopping at various rest areas in New Jersey looking for a good spot.  They ended up having sex in the woods.  Janette said "In her generation if you weren't doing it with strangers, there was something wrong with you."  She's actually 56 years old, the same age as Howard!  Janette is glad she had the past that she did and since her second date with Barry (her current longtime boyfriend) no other man has ever looked remotely interesting to her.   Jeannie is married to a studly man that is younger than her.  They reminisced some about what it is like to be newly in love and at the beginning part of the relationship.  Shoshana doesn't have any good sex stories but has had "lots of fantasies with the saved by the bell boy" according to Rosie.  And Rosie does not have any good sex stories even though Howard thinks otherwise.  This was in reference to their interview on Howard's radio show where he mentioned hearing all these crazy stories about Rosie and all these women a long time ago.  If you haven't heard that interview with Howard before she started the radio show it's great!  You can listen to it here:  Part 1   Part 2   Part 3   Part 4   Part 5   Part 6   Part 7   Part 8   Part 9.

•  Rosie told a hilarious story about how a few years ago in Miami she often used a "back cramp massager" and one morning she awoke to the sound of her air conditioning buzzing loudly.  She was angry because of the noise so she called a repair man.  Just as the repair man arrived she looked under the bed and realized it was not the air conditioner that was making the buzzing sound but her "back massager" that was buzzing under the bed!  She said she was 5 seconds away from the air conditioning repair-man discovering it.  They then talked about what were the best "back massagers."

•  She then took callers that discussed their "sex-capades."  Rosie gave the caller with the best sex story $50 from Crumbs Cupcakes.

•  Jeannie once got caught by her sister having sex in her sister's room!  Rosie "has to know you and has to love you" or "at least think she could love you" to have sex with you.  Janette told Rosie she was missing out on the fun of having sex with a stranger.  LOL  Deirdre admitted to being a "serial monogamist."  Deirdre's mother always encouraged her to have a one night stand.  Deirdre and her mom also used to get stoned together when she was in her 20s.  In fact, Deirdre used to work for David Letterman and was even contacted by the tabloids when the whole "David Letterman/extortion/sex with staffers scandal" hit the public recently.  She had "no comment" on the topic.  Lou went to commercial playing George Michael's "I Want Your Sex" and Rosie sang along to the ENTIRE song and dedicated it to Howard Stern for his birthday.  She said "Howard Stern, I WANT YOUR SEX." - from Rosie.  :)  She added "You don't have to go in the woods or a public bathroom to find someone to have sex with you, George."  lol

•  The Oprah countdown clock says 9 Days Until Oprah!  And Rosie still has no outfit for the show although she has ordered many things.  The people from Talbots called her publicist, Cindi Berger, and told her they'd put together something for her.  Rosie said she almost "pees in her pants" looking at the some of the ideas people are sending her on the blog.  She mentioned maybe making a collage of the images.  Rosie admitted to missing her Eileen Fisher and but adding how she can't wear them anymore because "they broke up."  Rosie thinks Oprah thinks she's a bit crazy.  Rosie read An Unquiet Mind: A Memoir of Moods and Madness and asked if the studio thought she could be Bipolar although her therapist tells her she's not.  Deirdre, Jeannie and Janette said Rosie is passionate but they don't think she's Bipolar.

•  Rosie then talked briefly about her time on the View and how she thought she would "love Elisabeth Hasselbeck out of her own fear."  Sadly we all know that didn't happen.  Rosie soon realized after joining the show that they weren't friends in the manner that she thought they were.  She said she "felt betrayed after the whole View thing."   Rosie said she canceled her Jay Leno appearance for next week.  She said "Its a crazy time and she doesn't want to be on  not saying what she's really thinking."  She said the classier move would have been for Jay to say goodbye and step down.  THIS is what Rosie is refferring to.  She IS doing the Craig Ferguson Show and they're doing a big puppet opening number!  That should be fun!

•  The studio then weighed themselves.  They're not doing a diet but they are being more conscious of their weight.

-Janette lost 2 and a quarter pounds.  Her plan is she's going to go to nutritionist Dr. Allan Pressman, with Laura Banks the coauthor of the book she wrote last year - Embracing Your Big Fat Ass.
-Jeannie lost 2 pounds by "just eating healthier."
-Bobby lost 2 pounds.
-Rosie gained a pound which she attributes to not working out as much and perhaps the scale is broken.
-Deirdre lost a pound.
-Pete lost 2 pounds.

•  Deirdre's boyfriend Ted called in and Rosie spoke to him on the phone.  Ted mentioned how Deirdre forgot to mention the bruise she got on her leg from hopping over a fence the night they had sex in Central Park!

•  Then it was time for Up Close And Personal with Google Pete!  Google Pete's real name is Peter Mele.  Answering where he is from is a difficult question.  Pete was born in Korea and moved to Indonesia then moved to DC.  (and I missed something in there).  Pete went back to DC to go to high school and then moved to New York to go to college and now lives in New York.  Pete's first language was Bahasa which is the official language of Indonesia.  He went to International Schools growing up and dated an actual princess of Kuwait until her mother called his mother to say they could have nothing to do with each other.  He watched a lot of old movies and old TV shows as a child and they used to watch Star Trek as a family.  Pete likes Star Trek because "they try to create a better world where people can come together and coexist in the world."  He admits to being slightly closeted about his love of Star Trek because most people think trekkies are weirdos.  He also admits to having never owned a Star Trek uniform but he has owned phasers and Star Trek toys.  He and his friend George used to make their own Star Trek movies in his basement.  Rosie absolutely loved his "up close and personal."  She asked Bobby if they could make him his own Star Trek uniform.  (Although Pete really didn't think they should do it because his wife wouldn't like it.)  Rosie proposed it as an "incentive outfit" that he could get when he reached 230 pounds.  We can't wait to see pictures Pete!!

Google Pete "googling"

•  Rosie then interviewed Emilio Estefan who was in the studio to promote his newest book entitled Rhythm of Success: How An Immigrant Produced His Own American Dream.   Emilio Estefan is a Cuban-American of Lebanese ancestry who is a musician and producer. Estefan was a member of the Miami Sound Machine, but he is also a producer of many famous singers.  He is also the husband of singer Gloria Estefan.

Emilio Estefan

•  Rosie called Emilio "the nicest guy in the world" and she called Gloria and Emilio the "most normal people in show business she's ever met."  She also called him an "amazing record producer, great dad and amazing friend."  Emilio described his book and how much he enjoyed writing it.  He told his amazing life story about how when he was 15 years old he and his father left Cuba and moved to Spain.  In Spain, he played the accordion for food and was practically homeless.  He told the story about starting the Miami Sound Machine and meeting Gloria and falling in love with her.  Gloria and Emilio not only produce music but they also have hotels, restaurants and are involved in T.V. and film.  They even own a minority share of the Miami Dolphins!  Emilio reminded Rosie how she put an unknown singer of his on her show before she was even famous.  Who was the singer?  It was Shakira!  Watch a video of Shakira singing on The Rosie O'Donnell Show in 1999!

•  Emilio called Rosie "One of the brightest women he knows."  They took some callers who asked Emilio how to raise their children to maintain their ability to speak both Spanish and English.  Emilio recommended speaking Spanish in the home.  They also talked about how President Obama has recently named Emilio Estefan to the commission to study the potential creation of a National Museum Of The American Latino.  Here is a link to the American Latino Museum's website.  Rosie thanked Emilio for coming in to the studio and for his interview and recommended listener's buy his book.

•  Rosie then talked a bit about her love for Joni Mitchell's music which Kelli (Rosie's ex) and Vivi (Rosie's youngest daughter) think sounds sad and depressing but Rosie thinks her music is inspirational.  Janette and Rosie talked about finding solutions through musical inspiration.

•  Finally a listener called in to tell Rosie the story of his niece that came out to he and his wife by having them sit and watch Rosie's documentary All Aboard: Rosie's Family Cruise.  He thanked her for the movie and for helping him understand the "normalcy" of the gay lifestyle and for helping him accept his niece.  She thanked him for telling her his story.

Watch the Trailer from All Aboard!

•  Rosie closed the show by reminding listeners about her newest documentary that is premiering on HBO on January 31st called A Family Is A Family Is A Family.  "A Family Is A Family Is A Family: A Rosie O'Donnell Celebration" is a moving portrait of the remarkable diversity of families today that challenges stereotypes, highlighting same-sex parents, mixed-heritage families, single parents and stories of adoption. Children speak from the heart about parents, siblings, marriage and love.  Rosie encouraged everyone to see it and closed the show.

In case you missed it...

•  The Oprah clock countdown says 10 days until Rosie is on Oprah!  Rosie is seriously stressing over not what to SAY but what to WEAR.  She ordered some handmade clothes from Etsy as options and is also considering JJill.  Rosie says you're "not supposed to wear something more than once if you're a celebrity."  Janette recommended "Art To Wear."  Some listeners have written in recommending Jones New York but Rosie thinks that is too "business-woman-ish."  A listener called in and recommended Torrid which he called "trendier than Lane Bryant."

•  They've also received SO many phone calls and emails about Bobby's fantastic singing voice.  Last Friday Bobby sang on the show and both the studio and the listeners were impressed.  Bobby used to do drag and his name was "Beverly Hills" and Bobby-as-Beverly even recorded a Christmas CD.   Pete was asked to be a godfather this weekend.

•  Rosie told the story of taking Chelsea, her 12 year old daughter, shopping at Gilly Hicks this weekend.  Gilly Hicks is owned by Abercrombie and Fitch and has clothes that "only fit children" according to Rosie.  Jeannie's daughter Katie recommended the store to Chels and also gives her all her old clothes from the retailer.  Rosie called it "the worst store in the history of the world."  She said that "perfume is shot out from misters in the ceiling and the walls" and "the music is so loud (she) got a migraine headache immediately."   She was also very offended by the HUGE pictures of half-naked men/boys on the wall in the store.  I checked out the website and um, I see why!

•  Rosie and Chelsea then went to lunch and Chelsea proceeded to list off the 5 most annoying things about having Rosie as a mom.  1. She's overprotective.  2. She's not girly enough/dresses like a boy/always wears the same clothes.  3. She's weird  4. She cares too much about what food Chelsea eats (meaning Rosie thinks Chelsea is too concerned with her weight and doesn't eat enough) and Rosie couldn't remember the 5th one.  Chelsea could only list 2 things about having Rosie as a mom that she likes: 1. She doesn't yell at her a lot and 2. She is *SOMETIMES* fun to be with.  Rosie asked Chelsea if she could think of anything she liked about herself and Chelsea had trouble finding anything.  But when Rosie asked Chelsea to list the things she hates about herself the first thing Chelsea said was "she's fat."  Which of course, is not true.  Rosie and Kelli also decided that Chelsea is too young for the cell phone and took it away on Friday.  By Sunday she was a different daughter.  Rosie talked to a caller about the book Reviving Ophelia: Saving the Selves of Adolescent Girls and how essential it is to read when raising teen girls.

•  Rosie invited listeners to call in and discuss the cancellation of Jay Leno's Primetime Show.   Rosie feels Jay had 5 years to prepare as to what his next career move would be and she can't believe he's going to go back and do a half hour at his previous time slot which bumps Conan and Jimmy Fallon both back a half hour.  Janette agreed and sees it as "an insult to Conan."  Rosie said "You're done Leno.  You had your turn."  And she called his actions a bit "greedy."  Rosie said she was supposed to do Leno's show in a few weeks and now she's not going to do it.  She's going to do Conan instead.  She took some callers to discuss the topic and even sent one caller a Tivo just because she didn't have one.

•  Rosie briefly mentioned how Urijah Faber, the American mixed martial arts fighter, won last night.  Rosie said "he should be a movie star."

•  Janette is still needle felting a boulder.  Janette talked about needle felting a boulder and showed Rosie how to do it. Rosie tried it on air and called it ridiculous. See the picture of Janette, Rosie and the beginnings of the needle felted boulder on Rosie's blog!

Janette, Rosie and the needle-felted boulder
(photo belongs to rosie.com)

•  Rosie spoke on the phone with a woman named Donna who was in the diner yesterday where Chelsea and Rosie went for lunch.  Donna introduced herself to Rosie to tell her how much she loved her just while Rosie was in the middle of listening to Chelsea list off all the things that she hates about her.

•  Jeannie wishes Rosie would rejoin facebook because she is having so much fun reconnecting with old friends.  Rosie thinks that facebook can take up at lot of her time in a virtual world and she'd rather interact in the real world.  Rosie also said that someone else is saying they are her on facebook BUT IT IS NOT HER.  You can find Rosie at Rosie.com.

•  Rosie also told a funny story about how she made breakfast for Parker this weekend which he found shocking.  She offered to cook him breakfast and Parker started laughing and then she made him cheesy scrambled eggs and he was impressed!  While Rosie was cooking, a song was playing on the radio and Rosie asked where she had been because she had never heard the song before and Parker replied "on anti-depressants." Ba-dum-bump.  Parker and Rosie watched The Hurt Locker - an intense portrayal of the elite soldiers who disarm bombs in the heat of combat.  Rosie and Parker watch a lot of war movies together. Pete recommended the film This Film Is Not Yet Rated which is a documentary about the Motion Picture Association of America's rating system and its effect on American culture.  Jeannie watched Brace for Impact the Discovery Channel film that examined the flight of Sully Sullenberger.  The studio talked about where they were that day and what a miracle it was.

•  A listener called in and asked Rosie "If she could have dinner with a famous Broadway star of the past,  who would she like to have dinner with?"  Rosie responded "Fanny Brice, Helen Hayes, Collen Dewhurst, Bob Fosse and I missed one other (Rosie can talk so fast sometimes!).

•  One listener called in to tell Rosie that Dr. Laura has "lightened up on the gays" and "she appreciates her frankness."

•  A listener shared her story about going to see Good Morning America and how some other guests thought she and her girlfriend were gay because they said they loved Rosie.  Rosie said you can be "not gay" and still like her.  Rosie spoke to the caller a little while and found out she was one of 10 kids and Rosie asked her how she liked that.

•  A listener called in to thank Rosie for the book recommendation Motherless Daughters: Legacy of Loss by Hope Edelman.  The caller said the book has really been a huge help to her because she lost her mother to suicide when she was 12 years old.  The caller and Rosie talked for a while in a very emotional and intimate conversation.

•  They came back from commercial playing Naomi Judd "Love Can Build a Bridge".

•  A listener recommended Rosie check out Lane Bryant "the Icon collection" for the Oprah Show.  Rosie closed the show.

In case you missed it...

•  Today's show was taped on Wednesday of this week but it was all new.  Rosie talked about Lou's new love and asked him if he ever thought about getting married.  Lou has always felt that he would like to get married and have children someday.  Janette on the other hand sees no reason to ever get married.  Janette would never marry her long-time boyfriend Barry because they both think it will change their relationship too much.

•  Rosie told the story how about 4 years ago when Steve Irwin died she decided to learn to love and hand feed the squirrels.  After years of training a squirrel to come close to her, she has now trained the squirrel to eat from her hand.  Rosie has named him Shady and he makes frequent "appearances" in the studio during the show.  Rosie sang Feed The Birds from Mary Poppins with a British accent to boot.  lol  She recommended the documentary The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill which she called "an amazing documentary" about a man who took a year to get some birds to be around him and finally allowed him to take care of them.  You can see Rosie's own pictures of Shady HERE.

•  Rosie also talked about the differences between men and women in their ability to say "I love you."  Rosie feels most women are more free in their ability to tell someone they love them (in most cases) except for Janette.  Apparently it took Janette 20 years to say "I love you" back to Rosie.  Rosie said "Janette's not an iloveyouer."  Deirdre thinks men are slower to say "I love you."

•  At one point Google Pete spit his drink out and caused a ruckus in the studio from laughing so hard.  Rosie said he just gave himself "a nasal enema."

•  Rosie announced that she will be going on The Craig Ferguson show later this month and she wants listeners to help her think of a funny puppet song parody she can do with Craig.  Here is an example of what she would like to do.  The song possibilities she listed were:

"Tainted Love by Soft Cell"
"Rehab by Amy Winehouse"
"Shake Your Bon Bon by Ricky Martin"
"Proud Mary by Tina Turner"
and "Better Be Good To Me by Tina Turner"

•  Rosie asked listeners if they have an even better idea to submit their song suggestions to the Rosie Radio team through the feedback button on rosie.com.  SWEET!

•  Rosie then interviewed Merritt Wever who plays Zoey in the Showtime hit series Nurse Jackie.   Rosie called her "the funniest fucking actress on that show" and said it's her "favorite show next to Glee."  Merritt is from New York and has been working "here and there" but this (Nurse Jackie) is her "biggest profile job" to date.  Merritt went to Laguardia High School, the high school of performing arts and grew up with a mom that exposed her to the arts.  Currently, Merritt just started rehearsals for the play The Female of the Species at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles which she stars in with Annette Bening.  Rosie played some clips of Merritt from the show Nurse Jackie and praised her comedic timing and called her "epically talented."  Nurse Jackie premieres on March 22nd, 2010 so set your tivos!

Merritt Wever as Zoey in Nurse Jackie

•  Rosie then talked with the studio members about the scary chance that if you listen to the Sirius/XM Stars channel that you might mistakenly tune in to the Dr. Laura radio program.  Rosie and the studio talked about the horrible anti-gay things that Dr. Laura has said in the past, the nude photos of her that have surfaced and the story about how they had to carry her out of her office in a straight jacket once.  Rosie, Pete, and Janette looked at the naked photos of Dr. Laura online (find them yourselves people, I'm not putting that link up!)  Rosie sang "Dr.Laura-Is-Naked-On-The-Radio-get-off-my-channel-Dr.-Laura-cause-I don't-like-you" to some porno-ish music that Lou was playing.  (not that I would know what porno music would sound like).  Rosie wondered out loud what turned Dr. Laura "into a right-wing idiot."  That conversation led to Janette and Rosie talking about how they "don't shave or wax" which Deirdre found odd.  And Pete underscored the fact that no one in the studio has a problem with naked photos or having a child out of wedlock only the fact that Dr. Laura crucifies others for doing things she has done herself.  Rosie pondered having Dr. Laura into the studio but then decided she has "no desire to meet her" and she "thinks she's an asshole."  Go Rosie!  Howard once told Rosie she could OWN her own channel if she wanted to and schedule the entire days programming anyway she wanted.  Rosie said she would have Jim Breuer, a Broadway expert, Linda Dano and all her other favorite people on if she had her own channel. We're for that Rosie!  Your fans would love it too!!

• Bobby talked about his jury duty he has coming up on the 24th of January.  Bobby once got in trouble when he didn't attend jury duty because Rosie  "made him" come with her to Canada when they were filming Harriet the Spy.  Rosie explained how Bobby basically was helping her raise Parker who was a baby at the time.  Bobby was fined $350 for missing it the first time.  Janette told the stories of doing grand jury duty and regular jury duty.  She once got to look in the guilty person in the eyes and say "guilty."  Janette said she found jury duty "extremely interesting" and enjoyed seeing how sometimes "the system works."  Google Pete has been called to jury duty once and feels (in general) he has been unfairly targeted by police officers and that perhaps the system has gotten very corrupt.  Rosie has never done jury duty.  Rosie doesn't even get the mail and doesn't even know where her mail goes.  Hmmmmmmmm.

•  Rosie then interviewed Mary Pipher who is the author of many books including Seeking Peace: Chronicles of the Worst Buddhist in the World which Rosie fully related to and Reviving Ophelia: Saving the Selves of Adolescent Girls which Rosie was so moved by.  Mary spoke of the huge success that came from writing Reviving Ophelia that catapulted her into a life that she "didn't have the coping mechanism for."  She and Rosie talked about the rise to stardom and the truth about fame, celebrity and the reality that comes with it.  Mary felt "the more acclaim she experienced the more she shrank inside."  Both Rosie and Mary shared the need and want to go "back to the core" and "to be around people that love you."  They also talked about their shared love and need to connect with nature and getting back to the authentic self.  Mary spoke about how fame distorts your character and the pressure to be a superior human being because of your fame.  Rosie told Mary that her book helped her tremendously and thanked her for being on the program.  It was a really great interview.

•  Rosie then asked the studio the question "Who's your Barbra Streisand?"  Shoshana responded Mark-Paul Gosselaar who played Zack Morris on NBC's Saved By The Bell.  Rosie had no idea who Mark-Paul was.  Rosie promised Shoshana she would book him on the show.  In November 2009, Mark-Paul made his stage debut in "The Understudy" at The Roundabout Theater and Shoshana went to see him and waited outside the theater to meet him.  She took her photo of the Saved By The Bell cast with her and he signed her stuff and moved on.  Shoshana said there were so many things she wanted to say but they all seemed inappropriate.  She would really like to have a meal with him so she could have a real conversation with him.  Shoshana admitted that she still watches the show, has memorized it, and has even done school projects on it.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar
(for you Shoshana!)

•  Rosie talked about the questions she once got to ask one of her heroes Mary Tyler Moore and how her love of Barbra has only grown after knowing her in real life.  For Bobby, his "Barbra" is Cher.  Rosie has introduced Bobby to Cher and Bobby talked about how wonderful she has been to him.  Rosie sang along (complete with a Cher impersonation) to If I could Turn Back Time.  The Way Of Love is Bobby's favorite Cher song and Rosie DEMANDED Bobby sing along.  :)  And he DID and did a fantastic job!  He even held that long high note at the end!  The whole studio was impressed.  Janette said she had no idea Bobby was such a talented singer.  Next week they're going to play Bobby's CD!  Lou went to commercial playing Cher's Gypsies Tramps and Thieves and Rosie sang along with her Cher voice.  lol

•  Rosie closed the show.

01-07-10

In case you missed it...

•  Today Rosie began the show by telling the story of the house where they record the radio show.  The house used to belong to Marie Tharp (born July 30, 1920 - died August 23, 2006) who was a geologist and oceanographic cartographer who mapped the ocean floor all over the world.  Marie once told Rosie how she started her career as a secretary for the Shell Oil Company and then joined her partner to map the ocean floor.  You can view and purchase Marie Tharp maps HERE.  Marie also had a beautiful garden that Parker (Rosie's eldest son) once played in.  The house where they record the show was also part of the Underground Railroad.  African Americans would escape along the river and Pete mentioned the windows in the basement that face the river that was probably easily accessible to escaping slaves.

•  Rosie also owned a house named "Pretty Penny" once owned by Helen Hayes.  Helen Hayes (born October 10, 1900 – died March 17, 1993) was an American actress whose career spanned almost 70 years. She eventually garnered the nickname "First Lady of the American Theatre" and was one of only twelve people who have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony Award.  Helen tended to an enormous rose garden which Rosie and her family maintained and enjoyed until she was catapulted to instant stardom when The Rosie O'Donnell Show premiered.  The instant fame caused her to move to Greenwich Connecticut which Rosie called "the worst 6 months of her life."  She lived in an area called Conyers Farm in Greenwich for only 6 months and they moved right back to Nyack.  Rosie said it "was like driving into Tara" (a reference to Gone With The Wind) and Rosie did not like how the town was not racially diverse.

•  Rosie scolded Bobby for not getting her tickets to opening night of A Little Night Music on Broadway starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury.  Rosie mentioned her new girlfriend Tracy doesn't love Broadway. (GASP!) And asked if this was a huge mistake to date someone who doesn't love Broadway and Bobby said YES!  Shoshana admitted to falling asleep during The Lion King. (Double GASP!!)  But also admitted to falling asleep in movies and shows that start after 8pm.  And Lou admitted to never having seen a Broadway Show!! (triple GASP!!!)  Rosie then proceeded to "interview" Lou in order to see which show they should go see together.  She asked him what his favorite movie musical was and he responded "Grease."  And she asked him what his favorite movie (in general) was and Lou responded "Rocky I."  Rosie decided based off his answers that she was going to take him to see Jersey Boys (or possibly Next To Normal) and she told him they would be going to Joe Allens on West 46th Street where they would have the Chicken Sandwich with Cajun Mayonnaise and she hopes to not be "sexually inappropriate" because she's his boss.  The studio roared with laughter.   All I have to say is, can I come? :)

Here's a video from opening night of A Little Night Music for all of us who missed it, including Rosie!

•  Rosie then took a caller asking about the roses from the garden in the house she once owned and Rosie told the story about how The American Rose Society has actually created a Rosie O'Donnell rose!  She promised to send the caller a Rosie O'Donnell rose bush.  They talked about depression, gardening, the importance of moving every day and getting out into the sun.  Rosie is also sending the listener a Sirius radio since she currently has to listen online.  Here's a  picture and description of a Rosie O'Donnell rose I found online.  Here is another photo and description.

•  A listener called in who recently saw the musical The Addams Family in Chicago starring Bebe Neuwirth and Nathan Lane to share her experience with Rosie.  Rosie said she is excited to see The Addams Family when it premieres in March on Broadway.  Click HERE to get tickets!  The caller raved about it.  Rosie gave her a pair of round-trip airline tickets courtesy of Airtran and tickets to see Billy Elliot in honor of the actors who play Billy on stage who were in the studio today.  What a fantastic gift!!

•  A listener called in and asked Rosie what the best show was to take a 6-8 year old to on Broadway and Rosie responded "LION KING, LION KING, LION KING."  :)

•  Pete, Shoshana and Rosie went out to dinner last night with two men that previously called into the show and offered to trade the blueprints of the Starship Enterprise (originally published in 1973) in order to have dinner with Rosie.  The couple lives in Orlando, Florida and they drove all the way to New York to have dinner with Rosie and her staff.  Pete got to keep the blueprints (even though Janette beat him in a Star Trek trivia contest) and called them "awesome" and almost "like a holy scripture" for him.  Rosie called the men "adorable and lovely."  The couple laughed at Rosie's ineptitude for facebook.  Rosie said she didn't understand facebook and called it "the lazy person's blog."  Janette loves facebook.  So do I Janette!  If you love facebook and want to connect with other Rosie Radio fans on facebook click HERE.

•  During the show Rosie got an email from RalphLauren.com and asked Pete to unsubscribe her from that email list.  They talked about spam they receive in their email in-boxes and Janette clarified with everyone that her boyfriend Barry does not need Viagra.  Rosie is getting so many spam messages selling her Viagra she's starting to take it personal!

•  The Oprah clock says 14 days until Oprah!  Rosie discussed her fear of going on the show and her fear of making a fool of herself.  Rosie is not nervous to do any other talk show, she is ONLY nervous to be on the Oprah show.  She discussed her frustrations over finding something to wear to the interview because of her breakup with Eileen Fisher.  She mentioned trying to order socks on LifeIsGood.com while taping the show because she's "out of socks" and she "likes to get packages every day."  Pete mentioned that he is still wearing the pants he wore in high school!  NICE!  A listener called in and told Rosie she SHOULD be nervous to go on Oprah because, perhaps, Oprah is mad about when Rosie said that Oprah and Gayle were gay.  Rosie clarified that she didn't really think they were gay, "they just act like they are."  Lou played Madonna "Dress You Up" and went to commercial.

•  Rosie then interviewed two of the boys that play Billy Elliot on Broadway.  Trent Kowalik (who originated the role and won a Tony for his performance) is from Long Island, New York.  He has been performing in the musical for two years.  Alex Ko is from Iowa City, Iowa.  Alex's dance teacher took him to New York and he was seen dancing and was then asked to audition and he got the role!

Alex Ko and Trent Kowalik

•  Rosie talked to them about performing on Broadway and learning the complicated dance numbers.  Rosie said she "thinks its the best show she's ever seen."  They talked about building up your stamina for the show, the height and weight requirements, and funny things that have happened onstage.  Alex told Rosie about how when he was 10 years old he lost his father to liver cancer.  Rosie shared with him her own  story about when her mom died.  Rosie asked Trent about what it was like to win a Tony!  Watch a performance from Tony night and the acceptance speech they gave that night below:

The performance at the Tony's!

The boys accepting their Tony!

•  The boys mentioned how they like to play Wii and PlayStation 3 and Rosie said she was having a Wii with ALL the games delivered to the theater for them today!  You learn more about Trent on his blog HERE.  Then Rosie asked them to sing - LISTEN below.

LISTEN to the Alex and Trent from Billy Elliot on Rosie Radio today!
(not great sound quality but the best I could do...)

•  A listener named Carla, a truck driver who is suffering from depression and was sexually abused as a child, called in and was so deeply touched by the boys' performance, she was crying.  Rosie sweetly talked to Carla about her depression and her recovery from it and recommended the book "The Courage to Heal: A Guide for Women Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse" by Ellen Bass and Laura Davis.  She asked her to stay on the line so that Rosie could connect Carla to her therapist so they could do phone sessions.

•  Came back from commercial playing "No One" by Alicia Keys.

•  They talked about the speech that speech that Mariah Carey recently gave at the People's Choice Awards where she admitted to being drunk.  Rosie and Janette loved it.  Mariah and Rosie share the same publicist Cyndi Berger.  Janette told a funny story about being drunk at an awards show.

•  For the last part of the show Rosie took callers.  One caller told Rosie she had nothing to worry about since she's already done the Howard Stern Show and what could be scarier than that!  (which is a good point).  Rosie gave her a copy of last season's Big Love.  She talked to a caller about her documentary A Family Is A Family Is A Family which Rosie said is loosely based off the similar sentiment of "Free to Be You and Me" only her documentary is about families and how families are all different today.  Rosie maintained she will just have to keep doing her Transcendental Meditation to try not to be nervous for Oprah.  You can do it Rosie!

•  Rosie closed the show.

In case you missed it...

•  Rosie and the studio talked about their evenings while watching Rachael Ray on mute during today's show.  Bobby watched the Biggest Loser Premiere last night and Google Pete got home just in time to put his kids to bed.  And Rosie announced that Lou (the Board Op) is in love!  Lou has a girlfriend who works at Sirius who's name "starts with M."  :)  Lou talked about how he's been dating his girlfriend for a month and he told her he's in love with her after only just 2 weeks of dating.  He often blurts it out when he loves someone and that scares some people.  The studio (and the audience at home!) is happy for him.  Rosie said she would like him to bring her in and interview her.

•  Rosie was at the Carlyle Hotel last night celebrating the opening night of Elaine Stritch's new cabaret show  "At Home At The Carlyle: Elaine Stritch Singin' Sondheim. . . One Song At A Time."  Elaine Stritch is a Tony Award winning American actress and vocalist, best known for her performance of "The Ladies Who Lunch" in Stephen Sondheim's 1970 musical Company, her 2001 one-woman show Elaine Stritch at Liberty, and most recently for her role as Jack Donaghy's mother Colleen on NBC's 30 Rock.  Rosie went to the event with gal-pal Natasha Lyonne.  Read the article about the night HERE.  Watch a video of Elaine Stritch singing Here's To The Ladies Who Lunch HERE.  For more information or to see the show visit The Carlyle Hotel.

•  Last night many people were telling Rosie how great she looks (we agree Rosie!) because of her recent weight loss and it made Rosie feel "weird."  Bobby and Rosie don't even notice their bodies (or the change in their bodies when they lose weight) in the mirror while Deirdre and Janette analyze their stomach size daily.  Rosie told a story about how she never had to pay for food at restaurants when she got really famous and had to start requesting a check from the restaurants so her kids would learn that everything isn't free for them.

•  They talked about what weight loss plans they were going to do.  Deirdre has decided she is going to do Freshology.  And Janette is going to do either Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers.  Bobby is sticking with his "calories in vs. calories out" plan which is obviously working since he's lost over 100 pounds!!  Janette and Bobby also like keeping a food diary (writing down everything you eat).

•  Rosie talked some about how she is nervous to go on the Oprah Show and invited callers to call in and give her any advice on how to not be nervous.  Rosie is going on the show to announce her new documentary A Family Is A Family Is A Family: A Rosie O'Donnell Celebration which premieres on HBO on January 31st and she is also going to talk about all the other things going on in her life.  15 DAYS ROSIE!  We can't wait!!  And a caller from Chicago called in to the show and Rosie gave her tickets for her and a friend to come see her on the Oprah Winfrey Show!!

•  Rosie talked about the first time she was on Oprah with a bunch of other female comediennes and how even today, she still feels like she's that young comedian.  She talked some about Barbara Walters and the profound effect she has had on the lives of women and women in the media. And then Rosie told the story about how she "drunk dialed" Oprah after the Columbine High School Tragedy who was actually very sweet to Rosie on the phone.  Rosie was so embarrassed the next day that she deleted Oprah's personal phone number from all her records so that would never happen again.

•  Rosie talked to a caller about dealing with and battling Anorexia (the caller battled the disease, not Rosie).

•  Lou played "Say You Love Me Put It In A Love Song" by Beyonce and Alicia Keys and went to commercial.

•  They played a pre-recorded make-up tip by Helene where a caller asked what was Helene's favorite mascara.  Helene said right now her favorite mascara of the moment is Covergirl Lashblast.  She also recommended getting a lash comb or taking an old mascara wand and washing it off and using that to separate lashes and prevent clumping.

•  Lou played "That's How Strong My Love Is" by Alicia Keys and went to commercial while Rosie made fun of Lou for telling his girlfriend he loved her before he could even pronounce her last name correctly.

•  Rosie announced that Up Close and Personal highlighting Google Pete will be next week!

•  Google Pete talked about what it was like to have a Diplomat as a father and growing up all over the world.  He and his family moved every 4 years and were exposed to many different cultural experiences growing up.  He told a story about meeting Geraldine Ferraro who once signed a book for his grandmother and even called her on a couple different occasions.  Rosie asked the question if it was okay to be a pacifist?  And they talked about yesterday's phone call with the listener who's brother-in-law died in Afghanistan.  You can listen to that original phone call HERE.

•  Rosie then interviewed Nicholas Mele, Pete's father, who is a retired U.S. Diplomat and an expert in non-violent-conflict resolution.  Rosie asked Nick if non-violent conflict resolution is actually possible?  Nick responded with a resounding YES and gave a number of examples of successful non-violent conflict resolution that have occurred in the last 50 years.  Nick has been involved on a number of different things including an unarmed peace keeping organization and setting up a local peace center.  He has spent a lot of time getting the center on its feet and trying to convince people that peace is patriotic.

•  Rosie asked Nick if one person make a difference?  His answer was Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., Dorothy Day, and the many people whose names we do not know.  So YES, Nick believes one person can make a difference.  Nick maintained everybody can make a difference.  Nick gave the example of the Nonviolent Peaceforce which was founded by just 2 men and now two years later is a highly respected organization recognized by many governments as nonviolent peace force.  Nick stated that real change starts with grass roots initiatives and its almost always the women standing up and saying "we've had enough" to make real change towards peace possible.  Rosie said she wants to get involved in the peace keeping movement.

•  A listener called in and shared her story of police brutality and Rosie gave her and her husband a pair of round-trip airline tickets from Airtran!  She also gave her $200 from Advil to use on her trip.

•  Rosie mentioned how she wants to get Britney Spears on the phone because she loves her.

•  Finally Rosie talked to a caller about their mutual dislike for Joe Lieberman and turning anger into words that can trigger positive action.  The caller and Rosie talked about Howard Stern and how Rosie once feared him but now they are friends.  Howard and his wife Beth have invited Rosie to come spend a weekend at their house in the Hamptons very soon!  Rosie closed the show.

01-05-10

In case you missed it...

•  Rosie began the show talking about how yesterday Liza Minnelli was in the studio to be interviewed.  Jeannie admitted to being "star-struck" meeting Liza and talked about the time Rosie once introduced her to Steven Tyler.  Rosie remembered watching the Liza With a Z show promos with her mom and Janette once went on a 10-hour bus trip to see Liza perform.  The interview with the amazingly talented Liza Minnelli is set to air on Thursday January 14th!  Don't forget to tune in!

Rosie and Liza from Rosie Live in 2008

•  Rosie told a funny story about how in 1996, when her TV show The Rosie O'Donnell Show first aired, Christine Ebersole asked her to speak at a charity event for Retinoblastoma.  Rosie was to be honored at the event, although she had never done any specific fundraising for the cause.  As a surprise for Rosie, the producer of the event had Aretha Franklin tape a "congratulations message" to Rosie.  When they played the tape at the event they cued the tape to play at the wrong moment and what ended up playing was Aretha saying "What do you want me to say for who?  Who?  What's the charity?  Alright, let me try (Aretha tries a congratulations message but makes a mistake)...OH shit, okay, try let me try again" until Aretha finally got the message right.  That must have been a very funny moment!!  Great story Rosie!

•  Rosie talked about how she was telling the studio before the show started that she loves the song "If I Were A Boy" by Beyonce and how she loves the words, the sentiments and the video.  Bobby told her that he thought the song sounded like the Katy Perry song "I Kissed A Girl" to which Deirdre added that she had even remembered a controversy over the two songs because of their similarity.  Rosie found this to be very funny because the two songs sound nothing alike, have nothing to do with each other in their meanings and never had any controversy connecting the two.  She made fun of her staff relentlessly.  She said she wanted a "time out" corner for her staff when they say dumb things like this.  Do they sound the same to you?

•  Janette mentioned her love for a nice "cardi" (aka cardigan) and then Rosie and Janette debated the benefits of sweaters over sweatshirts - Janette representing the sweater defense and Rosie on the sweatshirt side.

•  About 30 minutes was dedicated to making fun of Janette for the new craft project she's begun where she's needle felting a boulder.  Janette showed the studio a catalogue tear out of one she was making and talked about the needle felting process and how they are made.  Rosie said that Janette has "eclectic taste" and described a vintage Thumbelina doll she has hanging in a "cage" in her apartment.  Janette's sister Lanette is a talented artist with a website who taught Janette how to needle felt and has an amazing piece of art showing the stages of an eating disorder.  I found a needle felted boulder on etsy for a cool $450.00 so if you'd like to pick one up click HERE!  Rosie also sells her art on etsy HERE.  (All this was going on while Rosie was skyping with her new girlfriend Tracy's son Wyatt during the show.)  Want to learn to needle felt?  Here's a how to video!

•  They came back from break playing the song Liza With A Z with Rosie singing along and knowing all the words, of course!  Watch this great clip of Rosie singing "Liza with a Z" WITH Liza Minnelli from the PBS broadcast of "The Leading Ladies."

•  Rosie took a caller and discussed weight loss and recommended the book The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet: The Lifelong Solution to Yo-Yo Dieting by Rachael and Richard Heller.  Rosie said that when she commits to doing this diet it really works for her.  Rosie talked some about her role in the movie Exit To Eden where her weight fluctuated from 170 in the beginning of the movie to 200 towards the end of the filming.  Watch the original trailer from Exit to Eden HERE!!  LOL - sorry I can't help it.

•  Then it was Weigh In Time!  They got a doctor's scale for the studio (well, really Janette's boyfriend Barry ordered it) and they weighed in the members of the studio that were going to participate in the weight loss program.

Google Pete who has gained weight since the show started weighed in at 245.
Bobby is the keeper of Jeannie's weight because she chose to keep her weight private. Jeannie said she was at a "fat peak" but feels it's helpful in motivating her to lose weight.
Janette's starting weight is 194.4.
Rosie's starting weight was 211.
Deirdre weighed in at 135.
And Shoshana and James didn't participate because they are already thin.

•  Rosie's brother Tim shared his success story and has lost 40 pounds in four months because of his recent Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis.  He has since evened out his sugar levels and no longer needs to take insulin shots.  He also is playing ice hockey in a men's league.  Great job Tim!!!

•  Bobby, who has lost over 100 pounds, shared his weight loss "secret."  Bobby simply counted calories but didn't cut anything out.  He calculated his BMR and it told him how many calories he burned "just breathing" and his goal was to eat less calories than the "just breathing" amount during one day.  If he wants to have something special, he simply takes that amount off the amount of calories he can have during a single day.  He does not cut anything he loves out.  For Bobby, it was his looming 50th birthday that motivated him.  Fantastic job Bobby and you look great!

•  Rosie then took some calls from listeners who shared their weight loss stories and struggles.

•  They came back from break playing the song Mr. Goldstone from the musical Gypsy sung by Patti Lupone.

•  Rosie is doing Oprah soon and they made an Oprah clock giving the countdown until the taping and there are now 16 days until Oprah!  YAY!

•  Rosie brought in her Academy Award nomination ballots and last night she watched the The Messenger  with Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson.  The Messenger tells the story of two soldiers who must bear the terrible news to loved ones of soldiers who have lost someone in the war.  Rosie called it a "powerful film" and "required viewing."  Rosie mentioned she wanted to have Woody Harrelson call in to the show and she highly recommends the film to her listeners.  Watch the trailer for The Messenger HERE.

•  Rosie was watching The View on mute and briefly discussed whether or not they wanted to talk about her time there but decided "the past is the past, and its time to move forward."  Lou then played the song New World Coming by Mama Cass and they went to commercial break.

•  They came back from break playing the song No Bad News from the Wiz.  Listen below.

•  Rosie took a caller who asked her if she had seen the movie Taking Chance staring Kevin Bacon which originally aired on HBO.  Taking Chance is one soldier's first person account of the military's policy of providing a uniformed escort for all casualties of war.  Rosie had seen the film and loved it.

•  Rosie had a powerful conversation with a caller named Mary, who's brother-in-law was killed in Afghanistan, about the deaths of our soldiers, the wars we are fighting and our purpose for fighting these wars.  They talked about 9/11 and if there would ever be justice for the killers and if it will ever end.  The caller and Rosie talked briefly about the infamous fight she had with Elisabeth Hasselbeck on that ill-fated day on The View.  Rosie explained the true message she was trying to get across that day.  Watch that clip below.   Rosie recommended the Rory Kennedy HBO Documentary The Ghosts of Abu Ghraib to the caller and took down her information to send something to her son.  They went to commercial playing Foolish Notion by Holly Near.

Rosie not so successfully trying to make her point to Elisabeth Hasselhack.

Rosie successfully making her point to the caller on today's show.

•  They came back from break playing Kanye West Jesus Walks and Rosie took some calls from listeners who were not happy with Rosie's statements about the war and Rosie closed the show.

01-04-10 Back from Break!

In case you missed it...

•  Rosie began the show introducing the members of the studio to the listening audience because there may be new listeners who just got Sirius radio as a gift over the holidays.  They talked briefly about starting their diet but didn't make any real plans.  They also talked about their holiday breaks.  Rosie talked about finding Blake's missing snake in the basement that originally disappeared before Christmas.  And Rosie spoke about her new girlfriend Tracy Kachtick-Anders.  Tracy is the mother of 6 children who also spent the holidays in Miami with Rosie and her kids.  Rosie talked about the many many people taking photos of them in Miami and how very odd that felt for her.  With the 10 kids between the two of them it was a very busy but happy time for the families.  Tracy is a LGBT activist, a doula, an artist and an adoptive mom.  Read about Tracy's Open Arms Campaign, the non-profit, volunteer organization to recruit foster and adoptive families targeting the LGBT community - HERE.  See Tracy's artwork HERE.  Tracy is also a Doula and read more about that HERE.  And read an article about Rosie and Tracy HERE.  We're happy for you Rosie and Tracy!

•  Rosie talked about how odd fame is for her.  Janette, Rosie's producer who also worked with Rosie on  The Rosie O'Donnell Show and The View, once got a tiny taste of the fame that Rosie and celebrities must feel when she drew a mustache on a magazine tear sheet of Elisabeth Hasselback on their final day on The View.  Janette realized that she did not enjoy the feeling.  Read an article about that day and how Entertainment Tonight covered the event HERE.  Rosie has never met anyone who truly loves fame except for Kathy Griffin who even likes to call the paparazzi and tell where she will be.  Like the time Rosie, Gloria Estefan and Kathy went to lunch on an episode of My Life on The D-List and there were 50 photographers outside the restaurant taking their photos because Kathy called them!  See the hilarious scene Rosie is talking about below...

•  Rosie told a funny story about how it was very stressful to fly in to New York last night because of the wind.  Rosie talked about her fear of dying in a small private plane.  She has also decided not to use the private plane anymore because of the "gross excess" that it costs both financially and environmentally.  Some of the members of the studio talked about their first times riding on a private plane (mostly with Rosie).

•  They talked briefly about Melissa Etheridge's performance of Born To Run at the Kennedy Center Honors Awards honoring Bruce Springsteen for exemplary lifetime achievement in the performing arts.  Visit Melissa's website HERE.

•  Deirdre was in New Orleans over the holiday break with her boyfriend Ted.  She tried Absinthe, a highly alcoholic green beverage derived from herbs originating from Switzerland, for the first time.

•  Rosie announced that during today's show she would be taking calls so listeners can ask all about her new love life or "whatever else you want to talk about."

•  Rosie loves the new Alicia Keys CD.  She mentioned she wants to have her on the show.  They played the "broken down" version of the song Empire State of Mind.  You can listen to that HERE.  Alicia will be performing at Madison Square Garden on March 17th but Rosie will have to miss it because she will be performing in the off Broadway hit Love Loss and What I Wore again!!  They played "That's How Strong My Love Is" by Alicia Keys and went to commercial:

•  Rosie talked to one caller about marriage and the breakup with Kelli and how everything feels right now and how lesbians handle break-ups differently than heterosexual couples because they are usually friendly in the endings of their relationships.  The caller asked if Rosie was a Buddhist but Rosie said she wasn't necessarily a Buddhist but is very spiritual.

•  Rosie talked to a caller about being photographed on her jet-ski and the paparazzi taking her photo while she's in Miami.  Rosie mentioned the time she went to Miami with Natasha Lyonne and how the media was  speculating that they were dating just because they were photographed together.  See those pics HERE.  The photographer that once took a photo of Rosie grabbing her son's Parker's arm apologized to her for taking the photo that made her look bad in the media.  She wondered what it would be like to befriend this person who did that to her.  Rosie likes to encourage the paparazzi she meets to see the art in photography and not focus on the celebrity aspect of it so much.

•  A listener called in and asked how long it had been since she and Kelli separated and Rosie said that Kelli decided to move out two years ago but they've been in counseling trying to work things out for a while.  Rosie said "It's not like heterosexuals.  It's not so cut and dry - not so black and white."  Rosie is secure knowing that Kelli will still be in her life just in a different capacity.  She talked to a caller who recently broke up with her girlfriend who was struggling with her own breakup.   The caller also asked if Rosie had any plans to do another episode of Drop Dead Diva.  Rosie said she hopes to.  Rosie also would like to be on an episode of Glee with her RBKids!  Now that would be FANTASTIC!

•  Rosie was asked by a caller "what was the best moment or memory over her holiday season" and Rosie said it was seeing all 10 kids (Rosie's 4 plus Tracy's 6) play together and get along.  Rosie called it "almost too good to be true."  Rosie had met this caller before and even had her on The Rosie O'Donnell Show.  The caller's name was Brandy and they went to commercial playing "Brandy (you're a fine girl)" by Elliot Lurie and Rosie sang along and knew all the lyrics!  Listen to the song in it's entirety HERE.

•  Pete took his 4 year old and 1 year old girls to see the animated movie The Princess And The Frog this weekend.  Pete had to leave early to entertain his antsy 1 year old but enjoyed what part of the movie he did see.  Pete hated Avatar.  Rosie also saw Avatar over the break and admitted to falling asleep in the middle of it.  Pete and Rosie talked about the symbolism in the movie and they wondered if the billion people that saw it realize that WE, the Americans, are the "bad people" in the movie symbolically speaking.  Rosie admitted to skyping with Wyatt (Tracy's son) during the show.  Janette talked about Rosie's super hearing and her ability to multi-task.  Janette and Rosie saw Crazy Heart staring Jeff Bridges.  Rosie enjoyed it but Janette thought the movie was "one level" and didn't even watch the whole thing.  Deirdre watched The Hebrew Hammer over the break and called it "really funny."

•  Rosie talked about her plane trip with her son Blake where they bought a Nintendo DS at the airport out of a vending machine and how fascinating that was.  She admitted she has now deleted her Facebook account.  And she wants a fake name so she could just have like 4 friends on there.  She then told a story about the female passenger next to her in first class who was straddling, face-to-face (for clarification) her boyfriend on the plane and then the flight attendant that had to ask them to stop.  Rosie is going out with the flight attendants she befriended on the plane when she's in Chicago later this month to do the The Oprah Winfrey Show on January 21st (airing on the 25th)!!  HOLY CRAP!!!    She will be talking about the HBO documentary she and Sheila Nevins produced called A Family Is A Family Is A Family which premieres on HBO on January 31st, 2010.  Rosie talked about how she is nervous about doing The Oprah Winfrey Show.  We can't wait to see you on the "O" Ro!

•  Rosie is still practicing her Transcendental Meditation and again recommended the book All You Need Is Love by Nancy Cooke De Herrera.  Rosie's going to see her again when she goes back to LA to be on the  Craig Ferguson Show and she's hoping they can do a puppet montage together similar to the one he did to Say Hey I Love You.  Watch that video:

•  Rosie spoke about a documentary she saw over break that she loved called "Every F--ing Day of My Life" which you can catch on HBO on Demand.  "Every F-ing Day of My Life" tells the story of Wendy Maldonado who killed her husband after suffering from horrible abuse at his hands for years.  Watch the trailer HERE.

•  Rosie talked about the latest work of non-fiction she loved by Dave Eggers called Zeitoun.  Zeitoun tells the story about a store owner who stayed in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina after his daughters and his wife fled the area and then gets arrested for no other reason but his Muslim religion.  Rosie highly recommends all his work.
